Default Mileage: How long do 944’s last?

Ok, here is the item that matters most to me, but I’m afraid to ask:

How many miles can we expect to get out of a well-maintained 944?

i.e., with regular maintenance, and not pushing to the rev limit, what do you think the limit will be?

Trust me, this is extremely relevant concerning the 944 I’m about to acquire.

I’ve read that the block will last 200K to 300K with regular maintenance, but how many of you have heard, seen, or driven a 944 to 300K?

Lots of members have 300k+ cars on this list, still running on original bottom end. I have 170k on my S2 - and it has 5% leakdown and perfect compression.

I have 2 friends that post here regulary with high mileage 944's.
Wade B. has a 280K mile 944 that is still on it's original clutch and he also has a pristine 250K mile 89 951.
Andy (nine-44) has a 86 944 with 318K on it and it runs fine.
I have 178K on my car. It's just a baby.

Mine's got 250k, but that's kilometers =)
I've heard of a couple running over half a million miles... But I've never seen one personally.
If they're well taken care of, and run on synthetic oil, I can easily see them lasting that long.

245k and some change. Who's gonna celebrate "quarter-million" with me? Free beer and hotdogs...just like at communion if babe ruth was the messiah. :-D

Just as a note though...always keep your oil level a little ABOVE MAX. Or you get spontaneous rod bearing failure; also known as "f*ck, my car pulls way too many G's through those left handers."

my 89 had about 120k on it, 2.7l n/a. I raced andys 2.5 w/ 300k on it, and that thing stayed with me until about 80mph. They age well!

My Fiance's 924 S only has a 104K on it. But I have two friends who have huge miles on it. One of them is a '88 Turbo S that is gorgeous and is now only used for track with 265,000 on it. At 120,000 it won its class at the PCA Parade, it still looks outstanding to this day! I have a another gent in my PCA region who is actually a state senator with 375,000 on his Turbo! You won't see a anything from Italy with those kind of miles on it! Best wishes - Jay Gratton

I think they'll go indefinitely as long as you keep on top of the maintenance. My 944 has 130K and the 951 has 175K. The 944 runs like a dream, the 951 needs a couple of minor things but it otherwise fine (the stuff I need is related to performance, not "operation", stuff like a wastegate and cycling valve, but it actually runs great - just no boost).

There was an article on 911 & Porsche world in 1999 regarding a completely stock 944 Turbo with 363,000 miles with origonal block, head, transmission and EXHAUST!!!!

Bear in mind that items such as brakes, clutches and waterpumps are technically considered as 'service' items on any car and do need to be replaced at certain periods.
