Why does my car tick?

At first I thought the ticking was an exhaust leak. I replaced the cracked exhaust headers and it still makes this really annoying ticking sound. Its nothing loud like a damaged engine or anything. Its just a ticking sound that increases with the RPM range. Has anyone ever heard of this before?

I've heard it in 2 cirumstances from my engine, both were kinda bad...one more than the other...

1st time I heard it...spun bearing...lost oil pressure going 70 MPH down I-70...BAD times...

2nd time I heard it...thought it was a spun bearing...took engine apart, all bearings perfect...so, discovered it's a lifter...

The lifter will tick and annoy you, and I'm geussing it won't open the valve as much as it should... Find out if it's in the cam cover or the crank case...

Yeah...could be the injectors...you can fix that by pulling the wires off...

Injectors get my first guess... These Bosch injectors are loud as they do their thing.

I actually like te injector tick on our cars. Gives it some character.

I love the sound of it when it's cold....and the idle is low....very distince single combustions can be heard...I love that sound...

its not lifters or anything big. If its injector tick then the injectors are really loud and only tick on this one and not the yellow 944. Should i look into new injectors because i dont like this sound.

No, its their nature to tick. Lifters sound more like a clank, and they noise escalades severely at higher rpm. I can only hear the injector ticking at idle or under deceleration. With your foot on the throttle, the intake and exhaust sounds overpower the injectors.
