Default Why I love my 951!

I've now owned this black over linen 1989 Turbo S for 2 months and I absolutely LOVE it! I drive it everyday and it has now been driven in Atlanta traffic in 3 stinkin' hurricanes and it performed flawlessly. The car is very comfortable, very tossable, it handles like a dream and is the fastest car out of 20 cars I have owned. It is driven every single day, to work, to the grocery store, my girlfriends house, to play tennis, in the rain and in the sun. Not only that but it is one of the most gorgeous cars I have ever seen!! I'm totally addicted to the turbo, it is such a rush. I love the wide boxed off fenders, kinda looks like a E30 M3?! Ya know? The car is magnificent and runs so good I just giggle everyday. Cheers to all you 951 owners, you know what I mean.

man i feel the same way, I love driving it at twilight. I think something allot of people miss is how good the car looks with the full set of fog lamps setup. Its a pretty big difference. I wired (about to re-wire) piaa's totaling some 280watts, which are supposed to look like 440watts. It looks damn good. I point my fog lights almost straight down at the road so i get a double beam effect. however, when i tried to use my regular lamps in conjuntion, the fuse melted/exploded. I guess i need thicker wire :/

I was just thinking the other day how much I love this car. From the sound of the 16V engine at 6K rpm to the razor sharp handling to the looks it draws going down the street. I just added a pair of Corbeau TRS seats and the whole car feels so much better now. It's amazing what a difference the seats make.
I see people driving around in their dull, boring SUV's and econoboxes and I feel sorry for them.

Me to!

Man, the other day this blue S2 came up behind me and passed me, it sounded and looked awesome, you should've seen it! Then I passed him, and then the guy followed me off the highway and we got a beer together and talked about p-cars, and made fun of the guy in the DSM car that had to park next to us and stare longingly..........

Oh wait, IT WAS YOU! Ha Ha, LOL!

I agree with all of the nice sentiment above, even though I don't have a 951 or S2, it brings me great pleasure.

I wish I could say the same about mine.

I swear it's cursed. Since I've owned it it's had:
(1) Broken alternator belt - replaced
(2) Bad voltage regulator - replaced
(3) Shredded turbocharger - replaced
(4) Siezed a/c compressor clutch - waiting for part
(5) ANOTHER broken alternator belt (see #5, waiting for part)
(6) Broken cycling valve (waiting for part)
(7) No boost (exact cause unknown, but I'm sure it's going to be expensive and involve about 10 hours worth of wrenching up on jackstands again, there goes another couple of weekends).

I have yet to drive it more than 100 miles.

Still convinced these are great cars?

Overall, the 944 line is near and dear to me (my first Porsche was my '85/1 944 n/a that will become "Callaway equipped"). I absolutely love that car. It's treated me well, it's easy to work on, and when done it's going to go VERY fast. The 951 has a long way to go to make me a believer.

If I can't dispel the curse of this car soon, I'm going to sell it and go to the "dark side" - 911 time!

Porsche-of_phile,

How much did you pay for those 3 cars that you state barely run? Buy a good example and then drive it to your heart's delight. You can't buy a 951 for $5,000 and expect it to be reliable. The previous owners of $5,000 cars probably treated them as such.

I like the way everytime I run into a younger SUV or Econobox driver they act stupid in traffic or rev their engines constantly to prove something to me.

The 951 was $6500, the 944 n/a was $2300 and ran great. It had a couple of little quirks here & there (mostly fixed), but it's been far better of a car than the 951 has. It's only off the road right now because I was hoping to do all the Callaway-related stuff at once (belts, rollers, seals, water pump, head gasket, pistons, rings, rod bearings, turbo install, ignition system install, etc. etc. etc.) It turns out I'm going to have to wait a few months to finish getting all the parts I need (money issues) so I'm finishing up the general underhood cleanup, belts, rollers, seals, water pump, etc. this week and it'll be back on the road as an n/a in a few days.

When I bought the 951, it only had a sticking a/c compressor pulley. That's it.

The best way to handle that is to ignore it. If they persist, I casually look over, then point and laugh. It pisses 'em off to no end.

THEN, they'll usually feel like they have to burnout when the light changes or whatever, expecting you to run with 'em. I deliberately don't. God they look stupid.

I feel the same way. Except when mine is in the shop, and I'm driving my dull, boring SUV.
