SCCA Runoffs Champion
I don't know if this has been posted yet or not but David Finch has won his 6th SCCA National Championship in GT-2 driving his 944.
Here is a link to the article http://www.scca.com/News/News.asp?Ref=151
His site also has some pretty interesting stuff on it....

I went to the runoffs on thursday ( last qualifiying day ) and friday ( first day of the finals ). I have a couple of pictures of the car and will see if I can post them. I saw him in practice laps and he was moving along really well. I missed the final race and arrived to watch the race right after this class. Pretty cool to see the 20 year old 944 doing well in the class. I will see if I can post the pictures.
The most interesting car I saw those 2 days was a Caddie set up for racing. Actually 2 of them. The car listed at 3900 poinds... I don't know if it raced or not, but the tires looked worn

I used to be a scrutineer for the SCCA at Road Atlanta. (14 yrs ago) The GT class was pretty much "run what you brung." I saw GT1 cars at Charlotte top 200 mph regularly. It was alot of fun to look over those cars. I'm sure the engine was teeming wth go fast goodies.

I'm sure the engine has lots of go-fast stuff. My post was sarcastic. People are always saying "You just CAN'T make that much more hp with a 8v 944." This car is an example that you can. Yes, it's a race car. But racers don't have a magic wand. I'll bet the only thing that they did to that engine that you wouldn't want to do to a street engine is make HUGE ports with a BIG cam. But people can go a little milder with a road car.

I think he is running a carburated 3.0L S2 motor. A couple years back they did an interview with him and I saw some underhood shots.
Looked like the 16v heads (May 2.5L or 3.0L not sure what GT2 limit is) definitly carbs. I think only carbs are allowed by rules, but not sure. Car is light. My guess is 2000 lbs being semi-tube frame.
No expense spared for that one.

Looking at that website I can see some real engineering work went into that 944. In fact probably more than what the factory did, given slide rules and pencils used to develop the 924/944 cars.
Pretty impressive.
