Default Volk Racing TE-37 wheels for Porsche

I think I saw this announced some time ago but I just ran into some again. The Ray's Engineering Volk Racing TE-37 Ultra-Lightweight 6 spoke wheels are available for late offset Porsches (50mm offset, 5x130 pattern). Construction is hot forged 6061. Only current sizes are 18x8.5 and 18x10 (perfect for 944/968). Weight is 17-18 lbs per 18" wheel depending on width. Only available in White or Bronze (they really need to add silver or anthracite). MSRP looks like just under $700/each. Here's a pic:

Don't discount the bronze wheel. It is very attractive on many different color cars. Attached are two shots from the '03 Rays catalog. In the application chart - divide the Yen amount by 100 to get an approximation in $US.

The importer of Rays (and Volk) wheels here in the states is Mackin Industries. I have a good connection there. If anyone is interested, I can provide contact information.

For that much coin, wouldn't a set of Fikse, CCW, or Forgelines be better? They should be similar weight but they would be rebuildable.

Am I missing something here?

Max, 3-piece rebuildability is very much over-rated in my opinion. Many times damage to a rim lip ends up damaging the center, and then you're stuck with a nice doorstop regardless how many pieces. How many rims have you seen take light damage, especially on the track? On the street I can see a lip bend or curb rash happening, but on the track, if it gets damaged, it's usually serious. Also, look at the cost of a repair with partial replacement on a 3-piece wheel, and you'll find you're not talking much difference in cost from just buying a new one of these. These are EXCELLENT wheels, incredibly strong and very light. Street pricing puts them in the same playground as the CCWs.

I just wish they came in ET55 and have not gotten far enough in my race car to contact them and request a custom wheel.

MSRP on a set of Fikse Profil 5S is just under 5K dollars in an 18/9 & 18/10.5. The TE37 is a fantastic wheel for 1/2 the price. Incredibly strong and LW. They have been a staple of the Japanese tuning crowd for years.

If money was not an issue a set of Bronze TE37s would look great on the 951.

Cool...I stand corrected. I wonder why more 911 racers don't use them? Is it the usual aversion to Japanese parts?

Try Kodiak Racing Wheels. When I checked out their order form, it looked like it would let you specify the offset and bolt pattern that you wanted. Areospace grade 6061-T6 aluminum, very nice stuff. And their biggest rim, an 18x15.5 is under $600USD. They are located in Canada, website prices are in USD tho.

Im hoping in the new year Ill have the money to cough up for a set of these for me car, with good rubber... Advantage for me is theyre like a 30 min drive from my house, no shipping

I couldnt believe the prices when my buddy linked me to that site, a new set of those even in monster widths could be had for the same/less than a set of used CCWs or Fiskes or something/
