Default Wheel Impacts spring

The topic says it all. I've almost got my car completely back together. My new wheels fit great in the rear (where I was expecting problems) but they impact the spring in the front (BARELY). What are my options? Coil-overs for the Koni's from paragon? (that provides a smaller diameter spring right?) Spacer? Can i grind part of the spring away with the dremel or will that ruin the structural integrity?

The new tires are 265/40R17x10 rear and 245/40R17x9 front.

The coilovers will solve that problem since they use smaller springs, yes. And you get rid of the lower spring perch that gives you like another inch of clearance back there. I just did the coilovers, not bad a job at all.

Can you get by with a 1/4" spacer on the front wheels? That should give you enough clearance. The coilovers do use a smaller diameter spring so that will clear also. I wouldn't try grinding any material off of the spring, that sounds dangerous to me.

I had that problem when I was running 928 PD's on my 924...we put in a 1/4" spacer and it worked, until I killed the wheels, A-arms, and tires in an off-road excursion due to driving too fast with unfamiliar equipment on an unfamiliar road...

Please note:
Porsches DO NOT like going over curbs at 60 MPH... I'm very lucky that I didn't do more damage...

Yeah I can get a 1/4" spacer in there. I'd love to upgrade to coil-over's but my cash is tight right now.

George I had a local shop Corby's Collision on 15a outside of Lima, NY do the work. We've had good relationships with them in the past on other vehicles so I trusted them and the word turned out great. All need fiberglass front end (Fenders, Hood, Bumpers, Headlight Buckets from GT Racing, AIR Splitter, and Performance Products nose panel). They are looking for more projects right now so if anyone needs something done, I highly recommend them. Hoping to skip the spacers and goto coil's anyone know how much spacers cost?

Oh cool. I used to know the area very well. My father grew up in the southern tier (Groveland) and know a lot of places along 15. We used to visit my grandmother in Groveland all the time and that was long before 390 was built. Spent some time in Geneseo as well because a friend's wife (fiance at the time) was going there. And, I used to race karts at the East Avon track.

Regarding the spacer idea:

I have 86 951 hubs/spindles, and I have to run a 1/4" spacer to get my 16X7 951 Fuchs to clear the S4 calipers. With the addition of that spacer, I get rub on the outer fender lips under hard cornering during autocross (even with 400lb springs). All of the paint is polished away there. You may experience the same. FYI

Thanks for the info Tifo. If i have to shave a bit of the fender that's no big deal.
