Even if you don't agree with Z-man, you should at least give him some respect. He's been around a long time and doesn't bs...

Z-man, I agree...
OTOH, I got mine to 135...felt like it was doin 60.
HOWEVER...It was on public roads, BUT it was freshly paved, perfectly flat, perfectly straight, and there was nobody on it. I figured if I was gonna die doin that, I'd be happy.
I mean, how cool would it be to have an obituary:
"Porschephile 924 died while doing 135 MPH in his Porsche last saturday. The vehicle was found as a little red cinnabon of a car on the side of the road. there were no other vehicles involved."
I'd love that...people would read that and say to themselves, "Damn, he musta been having fun"

Every time I read a post like this all I can think of is how much the person is missing out on in life. Like a virgin, you have no idea what you are missing until you take it to a track. I used to enjoy spirited drives until I went to the track. Now I don't get ANY enjoyment out of driving on the street. 100mph may seem like fun but wait until you go through a turn at 100 mph. That's fun!

Z-man: I agree with you 100%, street racing and excessive speeding is a bad idea. Like I said, it was the first time I had opened the car up like that. I happened to be running very late, and figured that would make up some time...well I wasn't late, and I have to confess...it was damn good fun.

I only drive the speed limit... hahahahaha.
A little bird told me that if you think the 944 feels good at higher speeds, you'll be blown away by the stability of a 951. The added aero really makes it feel solid and hunkered down.
I love these little birds, they have good info

I typically do not drive fast but I recently had my tires "road force balanced" and I couldn't believe when I looked at the speedo and I found myself doing 90 mph! I could usually tell when I was going about 60 by the slight vibration in the steering wheel but not THIS time!!! hmm the car felt amazing...time for the track!

I wont be going fast for awhile, need to get a radar detector, and figure out what is wrong in the front drivers strut (i think something just needs to be torqued down). Havent gotten any tickets in the 951 but I've had it upto 150 on a stretch of open highway one afternoon.

138Mph... several times, never once been on a track.
Then i grew up. Im the only 21 year old Porsche driver i know of that literaly will not go 5mph over posted limits. I may get to posted limits very quickly, and in a left uphill turn i may break the rear wheels lose for a split second, and i definately HATE breaking into corners as its not good for gas mileage, but you wont see me leading any packs on the freeway, or changing lanes to go faster in traffic. I think its because i just have an utter fear of police officers, not really for my safety of that others, but i just feel a pit in my stomach when i see a uniform. Even when i have officers as customers in my store... not feeling good.

I'm not going to get into the track vs. road debate. It's obvious that to consistently do "triple digit speeds" the track is the place to be.
However, I don't think the motive behind this post was to ask people if they do "triple digit speeds" consistently on public roads. More like whether they've ever "opened it up" for a quick burst of speed. This is not appropriate on U.S. roads, and European highways are beginning to crack down harder on speeding, but the fact remains that Porsches are fast cars and everyone has crept over the posted speed limit at one time or another.
Just as long as the conditions were not intrinsically hazardous (e.g. rush hour, bad weather, etc.) I honestly can't see what's wrong with having "opened up the car" at some point just to see what it could do.
Flame away.
P.S. Sh944, I'm dying to know what happened to your 84 944!

120 once or twice. One of those 3rd grear pull deals. Ya know, just had to try it for myself
Other than that my car rarley exceeds the speed limit... err well when i was able to drive it.. (can monday come any sooner?)
I love just cruising down the road at 60mph
