Default Driving fast is fun!

Tonight was the first time I really opened up my 944 into the triple digits, crusing down a two lane country road at 110 mph I was amazed how smooth and sure footed it was. I knew I was making good time, but when I looked down I didn't realize I had broken the 100 barrier, car didn't feel like it was even breaking a sweat; 110 felt no different than 60 with the engine spinning a cool 4000 rpm in fifth. It definitely had more in it too, not bad for a 18 year old car carrying a passenger, cargo and on a hot/humid evening.

How fast have you had your 944 up to? I'd do a poll but I don't know how.

I've seen 125 in the turbo on a straight, then decided not to do that on the street again. I've had thoughts of taking it out to el mirage to see what i can touch, should be more then 160-165 when its back together.

It's even more fun to drive your 944 fast with a good radar detector!

I was driving home a little heavier on the gas pedal than usual yesterday, and like you, having a lot of fun, when the detector started to go off like crazy with 2 signals.

I slowed down and couldn't see what was up until after what seemed like ages, a Mitsu Eclipse flew by me and soon afterwards the hunting trooper crawled past me and nailed him.

Speeding is fun, but be prepared!

If I get 155+ on the 951 (mostly stock) I'll be happy; I'd LOVE to be able to get 170 in the Callaway car, but that's a long way away and one very long drive out to the salt flats or somewhere to test it.

270kms/hr (171mph) on my 951 , did it a couple of times and that was it.

Wouldnt do it again, since my tires are V-rated, couldn't go more than 150mph (240kms/hr)

Ok, for you old-timers, you know I've gotta post here, so here goes:

Driving at triple digit speeds on public roads is quite stupid, if you ask me. Not quite as stupid as street racing, but if you wanna hit triple digit speeds, take it to the track. Safer, more predictable environment.

110 may not feel any different than 60 for you, but things happen a lot quicker at those speeds: closing speeds are much shorter, and if you err or misjudge something, you will certainly feel the results much more!

I don't think a speed poll is a good idea.

He was on a country road, all tthe country roads I been on are usually long open roads in the middle of no wheres so seeing on coming traffic is easy and have plenty of time to slow down.

Why people complain all the time when people drive a triple speeds? Im tired of hearing people say its stupid and everything. If you dont want to drive at Triple speeds once in awhile then sell your Porsche and go buy a Nicely maintaned Yugo. There going cheap these days.

Im sure peopel dont browse the forums and post topics to be preached. Some people go somewhere on Sundays for that.

Notice his avatar; he gets his car over 100 MPH on the TRACK. Driving extremely fast or wrecklessly on public roads is dumb. That said, I usually drive 90 or so on the highway as long as traffic is light.

I never said I don't like driving fast. I drive my car quite fast, as a matter of fact. I see 100-120 mph regularly on the track.

There is a place for everything - the streets aren't the place for triple digit speeds.

If you are serious about finding the performance limits of your car, you'll take it to the track and play there - there are plenty of opportunities (DE, club racing...etc) Give those a try - you don't know what you're missing.
