Default Water Leak...Help

Just bought a 1987 944S. The guy dropped it off tonight. When I previously looked at the car I specifically asked him if it leaked. He said no. Well I was looking over the car and checked the rear passenger cubby and it is filled with water. Where could the water have gotten in? What should I do?

Here's are some pics:

Congrats on the new car purchase. Good color. Did you sell the other?

Woah, that is a lot of water. I may be stating the obvious, but did you check to see if the drain tube in the photo goes thru the hole in the bottom of that area and exits? It should go straight down, and in the photo it looks like it has a little bit of slack.

Meanwhile there's a rubber plug you can pull out to let all the water out that's in the cubby now. Run your hand down the back of the wheel arch to the bottom and reach inwards, and you should find it.

As for where it's coming from, besides the drain tube, the glass hatch frame may be leaking on this car.

Florida car?

That water is either from a hatch leak, (hatch glass seperated from the frame), hatch to body seal leak, or normal drainage from the hatch latch.

That is water from the sunroof drain. If the hatch was leaking it would be inside the rear carpet and not just the cubby. Do like Luis said and pull the plug for that side. Then make sure that the end of the tube is pushed all of the way out of the cubby. That tube is connected to the holes in the corners of each side of the opening for the sunroof. Not a problem. Don't stress over it. It is very common thing for the tube to get pulled out slightly and fill the cubby. It probley came in when the car was washed

That sure is a lot of water.

As mentioned above, make sure the drain tubed are free from debris and not blocked.

Second, there would be a 'plug' on the bottom. My previous owned blocked it off with silicon, which doesn't bother me too much because it never rains here, AT ALL (maybe 0.01% of the time).

To cure a hatch to body leak you need to replace the hatch seal ($$$).

If the glass is seperated from the hatch frame you need to have the glass re-bonded. A local Binswanger (?) shop quoted me about $300.00.

If the drain tube had pulled up and filled the cubby wouldn't the water now drain out of the hole the tube was in before? I'd say hatch seal or the drain tube isn't attached at the pin release anymore. God that's a lot of water in there!

It is also possible, that the water come inside from the gasket of the tail lamps.

The pin release is the receiver the hatch pin goes into. There's a drain on both of them. Unsnap the carpet near the receiver and make sure that hose in the photo is plugged into the drain pipe under the release mechanism. Is the carpet or headliner area damp also?

BTW, nice looking car you got there!

Nothing else is wet but in the cubby areas. I didn't mention before but also some water in the cubby on the drivers side. Not as much as in the passenger side but definatley a puddle.

You are at the point now where you should just drain the cubbies and run a hose over the lower half of the hatch, check for water, then again between the hatch and roof, then again over the sunroof area. First place that water shows up should give you a better idea where it's coming from.
