Default Good buy?

1987 944

1987 Porsche 944 for sale, 5-speed, approx. 140k mi., car runs but doesn't drive, new clutch ($1,800) but the clutch does not bounce back which is why it doesn't drive. It may be something simple like the cable or a similar device. Have spent over $8,000 to replace many parts - have receipts to show.

Wants $1k

Sounds like a slave cylinder, no?

I'm thinking a lowball offer to see if he will bite.

Good buy?
Mike

PS: Paint looks like it SUCKS

Yeah, I'd say so. Lowball him.

It could be a good buy, but that said is there a way you can look at it first?

If you have a true **** box, then its not worth the headache, on the other hand if its the clutch master cyl keeping the clutch from bouncing back (happend on my first 951) then its a fairly cheap fix..... lots of factors my friend.

Hmm... I sent an email asking if I could check it out. Only problem, is that its 2.5 hours from me. Anyway a lister could check it out for me?

Its either this, or a 90 Laser FWD Turbo to use as a winter car (the Laser cranks but doenst start after a timing belt job..sounds like bent valves or something as simple as a timing issue?)

mike, it's definitely a slave cyl. My '85 did that occasionally, I just pulled it back w/my toe while driving.

If you can't drive it you're going to want to have a serious PPI done on it.

That slave could be the tip of the iceberg. You'd have to be stupid or deceptive to sell a car without fixing a relatively cheap problem that makes it undrivable.

edit, wait, he wants 1K? The head is worth that, if it's good!

Work backwards...what's the breakup value if you take it home and part it?

2.5 hrs from Red Hook could be near me...where's it at, maybe I could check it out for you?

Especially after being willing to spend 8 large on other parts...
