I don't think that subs are wrong to have in the 944, personally i don't have a need for them but i can understand the theory... as long as you are not rolling down the street on spinners trying to shout the ho's if you know what i mean, sorry, but no i don't see it as a problem. THe 4x6's in the 944 don't produce any bass as it is.

I dunno...17 year old cars have a tendancy to rattle and have parts that are getting worn and loose with each passing day. And with lots of bass, parts will rattle and it'd sound like ***...

But people have done it. I say go for it, but make sure it doesn't rattle apart... and don't play a CD of Harmonic Resonance Frequencies....

As long as you dont have tacky looking box sliding around the rear hatch, who cares. Also if your going for sound quality, not the 'rattling license plate' effect. Then thats fine also.

All I know is my car came with a really nice sound system. The 10" sub runs off it's own amp, and another amp runs the remaining 6 speakers(F to R). I like the blues, play it a lot while driving; the sub makes the cleanest bass allowing the other parts of the system to do what they do best. I love clean sound but hate it when my windows shake from traffic. I love the new equipment and thought that a fader switch and reverb was IT when I had my first car, a 57 Chevy!

An 8" in the rear cubby is OK but ones you get into the bigger stuff it tends to be visible and that equals tacky IMHO. Besides, an 8 will give tons of bass, right down to near the bottom of what a human ear can hear and doesn't require a bunch of power. OTOH, big drivers and amps weigh a LOT and require a good amount of electricity, weight is always bad for a 944 and the electrical system is not the cars best feature.

If you've ever listen'd to Perry's system and those awesome KLA subs, you wouldn't even poll this question. I just replaced my whole system with a very nice Alpine system with new speakers and how can I say it... it needs bass still. I'm as conservative as you can get with these cars. Other than my stereo and my rims, the car is bones stock and will stay that way. THe KLA are hidden in the rear wells and absolutely sound incredible. I'm more than likely going to get them next year, after the wife cools down about my recent purchases of a V1 & a new stereo system!!!

I have very nice 4X6s in my car but the system just lacks the depth and punch you get with a sub. The speakers also struggle 'cause I crank the bass on my EQ. I'm definitely looking at the 8" KLA system...I put a 10-incher powered by a 250W amp in the wagon: and it's too much.

Go for it. Truth is....you'll get over the whole sound system the first time it's all stolen out of your car! I had a beautiful setup in my car for about a month before it was stolen.....

these cars are small inside. you dont need much. i run a 10" Boston sub in the trunk and it throws the funk just fine although I run a 250W MTX to the sub only. And so the Porsche police dont come after me, I colored coded the carpeting on it. So Nyah.

Personally, the only thing I want to listen to while behind the wheel is the sweet sound of the engine (and the turbo spooling up when applicable). If you are a big fan of bass, add some subs. Just don't let it get too loud, as in people can hear you from a mile away.

Even if you don't listen to typically "bass-y" music like rap or dance, subs can really round out the sound. If I had the extra cash I'd pick up the KLA sub. I say if you want it, go for it. But keep in mind, the extra weight will hurt performance slightly.

I have no problem with subs but I dontsee why anyone would need more than 1 subwoofer. I do think 5000 watt system is overboard.

I dotn dig the cars with a huge box with like 10 8" subs and **** thumping around town and sounding liek there cars gonna rattle apart.
