I'm with Danno - For years I heard the term "rice rocket", "rice burner", and other variants only applied to Japanese crotch-rocket motorcycles. The usage of "rice" or "ricer" for cars is just in the last 5 years or so... As for the NSX, people tend to forget that in the early 90s when it first came out, its performance was right on a par with other mid-engine exotics of up to double its price. The NSX was praised for its handling, too.
"Ricer", as applied to the people who like to put big wings on Honda Civics, sounds like such a pig-headed, ethnocentric, uneducated hilljack term that it must have originated in the midwest among Camaro and Mustang types. . . . . it's a shame people have to use it on this forum. Using that word just sounds ignorant, in my opinion. Can't people find a better word, or - even better - find something better to talk about?

Here is the fine print from the bottom of Bryan's Riceboy Page:
"Copyright © 1998 Bryan Minsok Hong.
Disclaimer:
The term "Rice-Boy" is meant to be a derogatory term. But not racially derogatory. Some people might say that regardless of what this disclaimer says, it makes Asians look bad. Well, I hate to break it to these people but asians are not the only people on this planet who eat rice. Everyone eats rice. White people eat rice. Black people eat rice. Native Americans? They eat rice. Europeans eat rice!! And, if you open your eyes, you might notice that a whole lot of the rice-boys out there aren't even asian! The "rice" really refers to their cars. It's not about their race, it's about their attitude!"
Notice the 1998 copyright. That's 6 years ago. Just before "ricer" and "rice" came into the automotive language with the meaning they have today.
And here is how it all got started:
