** Anyone take their Porsche cross country? **
When I get mine back on Sept 3rd I am considering driving cross country. 
1. because I have never done so
2. because I have always wanted to
3. because now I have the car I always wanted
Just wanted to know if anyone else has taken their Porsche cross country and how did it hold up?
I am talking about racking up some serious milage in a short span of time of course.

2001 - 2700 miles LA to Philadelphia 46 hours
2002 - 3100 miles Philadelphia to LA (southern route)
2002 - 1600 miles LA to Minneapolis
2002 - 1600 miles Minneapolis to LA
2002 - 1300 miles LA to St. Louis
2003 - 900 miles Milwaukee to Fairfield, CT
Just a few longer trips. I was also 'commuting' 300 miles every weekend for almost a year.
Obviously, I wouldn't hesitate if the car is in good condition. ;-)

If anyone saw Fahrenheit 9/11, there was a part in it about homeland security where they used Montana as an example state to describe our lack of homeland security. They stated that there were only 8 cops on duty at one point in the whole state!!!

This struck me as an interesting thread when I read cross-country. I use a jeep for that sort of thing. Driving the Northwest Territories would truly be a cross country experience because there simply arn't any roads, unless you consider ice roads in winter. I found a neat drive back in late winter (unfortunately I was in a rental) on Vancouver Island from Campbell River to Gold river on Nootka sound to go visit Luna the whale. The drive is about 100 kms with just about anything you'd like to see, especially the lack of traffic. The road goes over the spine of the island so you get to do a couple of mountain passes with switchbacks, a very fast curvy section along Strathcona Lake and magnificent scenery all the way. Damn that would have been special in the car.

yes.. twice, round trip
when i get home from work i will post details. you can see pics from my 1st trip on the link below.
they key to a sucessful trip is that if you take care of your car, she will take care of you. do all preventitive maintenence before. get a full tune up. bring a set of spare tune up parts, cables etc just incase something needs changed etc. bring a set of tools.
also join pca, and get a listing of names and phone numbers of all board members of all the regions you will cross. this is usually published in the pca's magazine. why do this? if **** hits the fan, its someone you can call, get advice where to take it etc. you dont want ol bubba trying to fix your car when you break down do you?
again.. ill give details of routes etc when i get home.
btw, do not take interstates. they are boring. you want to take us highways and b-routes. alot more interesting, fun, and alot more interesting things to see. you will definitly enjoy it more if you stay off interstates. (plus there are alot less cops on b-routes. last year we only saw about 3 the whole trip. 2 where in california)

Well I am in MD. I want to cut through the middle and reach Cali. Obvioulsy I need to plan some stuff out and funny you mention PCA. I am about to join! Already a Rennlist member. Yeah I dont want to do the interstate stuff.
As far as the car it is in the shop and I am having all possible maintenence done to it right now. $3000.00 worth of work matter of fact. I posted a list yesterday of what I am having done.

cool, you have to do us 50 through nevada. and you have to do us 36-40 through ropcky mntn national park,
ill give you some really good routes to look over you will really enjoy it.

Well one of my closest friends lives near San Fran. I want to visit her but what I really want is to drive my Porsche up 101 when you cross the Golden Gate bridge heading towards Stintson Beach. That drive is the ****! Curves around the mountains and you have the over look of the pacific ocean in all it's mighty splendor! I did that ride in a rental van. I can't imagine doing it in my Porsche
