Vin Help
I want to run a carfax on my new car but the vin isn't long enough. This is all I can find 93A0152335. I looked on the window, and in the door where it has the stamp from the factory and they both say the same thing. Why is it so short?

Look at the firewall, right in front of the battery box. There should be an embossed chassis number that starts with WP0ZZZ...
In the case of your 931, it should read something like WP0ZZZ93ZAN152335
A would stand for model year 1980, and N is for the Audi factory in Neckarsulm.

I looked there and nothing. I lifted crap, and there is nothing. I want to know a little more about it but since my vin is crazy I guess I won't be able too. Atleast I know it was built 12/79

If its a 79 model year, it does not have the 17 character VIN. I believe you may have a 79 (almost bet on it) even though the production date would say its an 80.

What Luis is describing is the chassis number. This was also the VIN for rest of world cars but the North American cars also had different letters for the 3 Zs in positions 4 through 6 that stood for the series, engine and restraint system. Though I'm not exactly sure what they did in 1980 since my VIN interpretation only goes back to 1983.
As long as you can read the stickers on the body pannels or the chassis number Luis mentioned you can get Porsche or the police to give you the whole and proper North American VIN number. Those stickers and punched in numbers in the sheet metal were put there to give chop shops a headache and give the cops a leg up when they busted the chop shop.
Boy, I hope you have a title or you are going to be in for never ending problems. The VIN will be on that.

I believe all 1980 US cars have the 17 character VIN with the 10th letter being "A" denoting 1980. In fact, I am almost positive. A 1980 924 VIN should read WP0xxx92xAxxxxxxx. The ZZZ only appears on the firewall and is the chassis number while the VIN plate on the windshield should have other characters.
