On my stock 83 NA I Run the option front and rear sway bar (ie car has rear sway bar) and 225/50 R15's on each corner. I even "upgraded" to KYB shocks. Still beat all other cars on street tires at my las autocross. That included Boxster, Boxster S, 993, 996, a bunch of 911s
It can be done.

Thats why you do this! (still haven't quite figured out what to do about the rain dripping off and causing dirt splashes on the bottom of my doors though.. gotta get some gravel or just close off the open side.)

No devon, hes simply saying that with the 250# springs, his car understeers a lot. If your suspension is balanced, 951 sways will make your car handle 100x better.

Gotchya.. BTW I just put in my 18mm rear sway bar today that I got from nine51... Still have stock front one on... Felt a fair amount of improvement. I had the 14 on before. It's hard to really tell if i'm really feeling a difference, but I think it feels more stable in twisties.. 26.8mm bar coming in this week that I will put on the front.

I wouldn't mind the extra zing of a turbo, but like the earlier posts, when it gets to the tight twisties I'll take any comers in my n/a. If im front you'll see dust. If im at back I'll be real big in your mirrors

hmmm do you think while in second gear in a corner I could disengage clutch and rev and realease?
would that induce oversteer?
cause I was understeering like a dogg out there....

FTY, you don't need to blow the rent money on Fikses, there's a much cheaper option. First off, the 225/50s that Geo refered to are 15" and for 15" wheels on the cheap it's hard to beat cookie cutters. CCs are stronger and lighter than PDs, not quite as strong as Fuchs but there's less than a pound difference between a 15J7 Fuch and a CC in the same size. 225s on CCs will beat pretty much any tire on a replica, a 15J7 CC is a hair under 15 lbs while most replicas are in the 22-25 lb range. On spring rates, IIRC the standard 951 spring is ~180 lb/in, stock NA springs are ~142 lb/in, 250 is a pretty big jump if you don't upsize the t-bars. Heck, I've been offered 951 springs/t-bars at great prices a few times, but if I'm gonna go to the trouble to swap t-bars it sure as hell isn't going to be to put in 951 parts.

i think that setting the car neutral is key, i am soon going to 250 front coils, but i am also tightening up the rear abit more to match. THis is not only to keep the front from diving, but to keep the rear from lifting quite as much and save my ball joints.
as for the pca autox results....
everyone in my class had race tires, i sport kuhmo victoracers, as does andy in m5class turbo swap.
Most of the 911/boxter series were running on street tires. The FTD 911 was on race tires, and he is a very good driver. The most impressive runs of the day i thought were by mike ward in the 968, which beat me by .06seconds on street tires, although im sure that extra 60 or so hp didnt help at all.

I've made my way through many courses using throttle oversteer, lately I've been trying to do it less and my times are improving. It's the difference between being one of the fastest 944s vs running with the really fast cars, it can be done but it takes practice.

i tend to do the best by not focusing on making each run faster, but making the smoothest runs possible and taking the shortest routes. My times are almost always less than the one before each run.
run 1. 69.8
2. 69.3
3. 68.9
4. 66.77
5. 65.907

When i get this computer back up to speed (just lost 7yrs of stuff this morning and am using a recovery program to get all my info off a formatted drive), Ill post a run from last weeks autoX, youll see there isnt much understeer. The question is do you want teh run with the spins or a clean run?
