Ok, here's what it looks like you'll need:
1. 968 engine complete with intake & exhaust manifolds, map sensor, wiring harness, DME & Variocam computer, and oil cooler.
2. 968 or S2 radiator and hoses (different hose setup but NA radiator may work)
3. S or S2 flywheel, clutch, and bellhousing (you could use the NA bellhousing but you may want to sell it with the NA engine)
4. Cone filter.
5. Throttle cable (NA cable may not work)
Anything else?

S2 tranny will be very hard to find with LSD. (Most factory LSD's would be worn out anyways) So a aftermarket LSD would be a good thing to look into if you plan to really put the tq down out of tight corners in autoX.

Here's a question. In the other thread that Ian has going on regarding swapping 951/968 tranmissions, there is some discussion regarding the fact that the 968 trans is optimized to match the variocam and rev ranges of the 968 motor. If that is the case, should there be some concern as to using an S2 trans on it? Or is that just getting picky? It's not like the car wouldn't go like stink, with the HP and Torque of the 968 motor, in a car that probably weighs 500lbs less than a loaded 968 at this point. That should calculate out to less than a 5.0 second 0-60 time, correct?

The radiator in my S2 is different than the NA radiator but I think it's the same or very similar to the 968 radiator. The water outlets are laid out differently and they have a larger capacity.
Still, the NA radiator may work for the swap, Matt could answer that question.

Well, for 0-60 I will put in
How much does you car weight?
How much diffrence in lbs is there from your N/A componets to the 968 parts.
What tranny do you plan on useing (I can just plug in all 3 968/s2/951)
I am guessing R-Compounds?

Jeremy - when I get to the house tonigh, I have a program for determining these things, allows you to make changes like gear ratios, etc. I will see if there is enough info here to load it up and test it out.
As to R-compounds, since he is not likely to be launching the car like a drag car it is virtually irrelevant to this discussion. If it made a difference it would be slight and not replicable due to heat buildup etc.

Car weighs 2530lbs, per the trucking scale at a local trucking place without me in it.
Gearing would be stock 85.5/86 944 trans, but eventually will be S2 trans.
Not too certain on the motor weight differences, I would guess the 3.0 is heavier, let's say by 40-50lbs (?).
I have R compounds, but like Matt said, I have a "No CV's left behind" policy that I like to enforce. So it could be figured for R compound or Michelin Pilot Sports.

someone brought up that the turboed 968's had a 2.7l head on them. If this is true, then couldnt you put a 968 variocam head on a 2.7l bottom end? This would be like having a 968motor w/o all the swapping......except computer stuff.

The 968 Turbo had a 8V head on it from a 944 Turbo not the 2.7L NA head.

the 2.7l head is the same head as the 2.5l head except for the larger valves- and since the 2.7l engine has the same size pistons as a 3.0(968 is a 3.0 right?)- minus the stroke, wouldnt they use the 2.7l head w/ stainless valves? In that case, the pistons from a 968/s2 could be transplanted into the 2.7l motor- w/o the stroke from the longer valves it would still be a 2.7 but the 968 variocam head would work? I dont mind doing the head pistons etc but all that torquetube/clutch/trans/yada replacement would have me skeeered.

2.7L head has different cooling passages as well, it would be a better bolt on. That doesnt change the fact that all the documentation says they used a 944 Turbo 2.5L head (and "made it fit").
Not sure about the rest of it because it rests on a faulty premise, that the 2.7L head was used.
