Prices, let me know what you think.
Ok, i got a call from the shop in indy, Here is what they said.
Motormounts $650.06
Brakes front $631.08 Rear $637.49
Putting door handles and mirrors back on, $480(3h each side at $80/h.)
Sunroof $257.50
The sunroof gears are stripped and i got new gears but the service advisor said they have to re-calibrate the assembly so it doesn't keep on going and strip the new gears.
What do you guys think of these prices?

You can do all of that stuff yourself and save a ton of money. None of it is very hard.
At least do the handles and mirrors. Keith (Icat) has a write up on the procedure in his sig. I used it when I did mine and it wasn't that hard at all. I'd never done them before either. I could do both doors in an hour now.
What kind of work do your brakes need? If it's just pads and rotors you could do that yourself too. Porsche brakes are very easy to work on compared to other cars.

it needs new pads and rotors all the way around because it was sitting for 5 months and they are horrible now. I have that write up on the mirrors/handles but i tried and tried and its a freaking PITA so im going to dump the 500 and get it done. I will however buy the brakes and do it my self. How much should i expect to pay for that?
Sam who is Bob? Has he worked on a lot of 944's before?
Thanks guys.

He has worked on Porsches for 30 years, both 911s and 944s. He is a one man show out in a barn/garage next to his house. He works with race prepped 911's alot I hear. It will be the first time Ive met him, but others around here praise his work and the prices attached to it.
Micah Jones, Matt Ritenour, I think Max (macnewma) just had some work done last week by him, and me this week.

Sitting for 5 months won't hurt the brake pads. The rotors would just get rusty but that should burn off after driving it for a little bit. You may just want to change the fluid.

Yeah, Bob is a good guy. He is a bit quirky, but he knows his stuff and he is honest. I can't remember his rates off the top of my head, but he is reasonable.
He is a definitely an air-cooled guy, but he knows the 944s well. Just as a warning, he will talk your ear off, but he is a fountain of knowledge and stories. He is really a nice guy. If you go there, check out the 911 race car he has there. It is N/A 3.8 pushing maybe 600-700hp...insane!
Oh, and he will install parts that you bring in, but he will also give you his opinion on said parts.
BTW, his opinion on the #2 bearing is that our cars are designed to run at a much higher octane than what we can get at the pump. Even 94 is low. He says it is a combustion chamber heat issue, which I had heard mentioned, and I could believe in our cars. He says that running no-lead race gas is the solution. He says it is even more important on turbos with higher boost.
Good luck-
Max

Let's see, that adds up to about $2800.
I'll tell you what... Pay me $1400, I will fly to Indy with all the parts, rent a car, stay in a hotel, do the work, and fly home (first class)....
gb :-)

Sounds like a weekend SOW project. I could use some of that fat cash- I wouldnt charge nearly that much for a sunroof fix. You wanna drive it here and hang out in Cinci for a weekend? AND you could bring your own parts..
I know I could do the sunroof and brakes.. Motor mounts? I have to do mine anyhow, what's one more set?

Give Bob a call. He is brutally honest and won't sugar coat anything so I hope you don't get offended too easily, but he is one hell of a guy and a great mechanic. As Sam mentioned he is a one man show so it might take some time before he can get to you.

Man he does talk your ear of, but a really nice guy. Sam let me know what he is doing to your car and what you thought of the job when its done.
Here is what he would charge me at $60/h
3h door handles/mirrors
647 front and rear brakes.
1 1/2h sunroof.
HUGE difference!
Thanks Sam.
