Default What plugs do you track guys use?

We are running a true "euro" motor out of a 83. It has a slightly shaved head. We are also running the euro dme for the higher compression. We have been using stock US spec plugs. What plugs do you guys run and what would you recommend. Not concerned about heat due to using a 951 rad. and a low temp thermostat. We also have a external oil cooler. We usually run pump 93 gas in it. We have tried the 100plus octane and did not notice a lot of difference if any at all.

Standard copper is "good enough". I use BERU Silverstone silver plugs. Silver is the best available conductor in a spark plug. They don't last quite as long, but I'd replace any plug once per year regardless. No claims of sky-high +15HP - just doing what I can to keep the power robbing gremlins away. Also use MSD6a and MSD Blaster2 coil.

Just don't use platinum.

Yah, an plug would do. Just get them 1 colder than stock and you should be OK with the higher compression.

Bosch Coppers as suggested from Porsche. I find this car runs better without aftermarket sh*t....except maybe on the suspension

It's funny how many of my friends have VW 1.8T's that switched to Platinum after not having the car very long.

Even my Scirocco 16V had'em.

Every one ran like sh*t until I switched them to either silver or copper.

The local VW dealer insisted all Scirocco's came with Platinum as OEM, they don't even carry any non Platinum plugs for any car. It's scary how wrong they are on just spark plugs. OEM on all Scirocco's was silver.

Platinum is for people that want 100,000 miles with zero maintainence.

Thanks for all the info. This is a track car, but I guess that it would not make a difference in street or track for the plugs.

tod84944,

my '89 944 is a euro gray market car. Since you have a euro engine, any idea on how much more horsepower a euro has over the american 944s.

I'm not a track guy, but I like the Bosch plus 4 spark plugs.
