Angry Bogus Tune Up At The Shop!!!!!!!!!

I am so pissed I could spit!!!!!!!!!

I just got my 944 back from the the shop where it was supposed to have the standard tune up done for $150.

I got it home and the ONLY thing they did was to change the spark plugs and put on a new fuel filter - for $150!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I called and was told that that was what a tune up was! They changed the spark plugs, put on a new fuel filter and looked at the air filter(didnt change it, just looked at it) for $150!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it just me or is this a rip off?!?!?!?!?!?!

Anyone know of anywhere to bring my Porsche from now on in Wisconsin?!?!?!?

Yep it's a rip off.
Modern cars don't require 'tune-ups' per se. With fuel injection and computer controlled electronic ignition there aren't many parts that wear out.
If they would have included a cap and rotor in that price it would've been ok.

The one I like was 'Winterizing".
When I was a kid my dad would take the big Buick to the dealer to have it 'winterized'. They'd change the oil, check the antifreeze, and replace the wipers for $150!

4 cyl spark plug change 39.99-49.99
Fuel Filter - 24.99 (roughly, depends on where they bought it)
Labor - .5 IIRC at 80 ish

39.99+
24.99+
40.00=
104.99 + Tax (no clue) + Shop Supplies + waste fees
Close to 150.00

Rip Off? Well, if you didnt ask what was included, kick your own ***, chalk it up to experience and move on. What was your expectation?

Look at what you paid for.

1 hour labor 85
4 plugs 12
filter 30

Thats 127.00 plus tax.

That sounds pretty close to me.

What did I expect?!

Ask anyone on here what a tune-up means and I bet 95% will say it includes an oil change and a new air filter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about calming down a little. A tune up means, changing the plugs, setting the point and consensors, and visually inspecting the rest. Since these cars do not have points and condensor a tune-up is a spark plug change.

Ask anyone here and I bet 95% of them will tell you that you ASSUMED something was going to be done, this is YOUR fault not the shops.

7th, you are on the right path, it is NOT that high, maybe a couple of dollars.

when i think tune up i think:

NEW
- air filter
- distributor cap
- rotor
- spark plug wires
- spark plugs
MAYBE at a nominal extra charge if they call me and say 'hey it's time/mileage for this too'
- fuel filter
- oil change

my $.02

That's why it's worth it to do your own work.

plugs-$8.00
fuel filter-$25.00
beer-$4.00
Savings---$113.00 and a buzz.

It's a shade high, but not outrageous. Learn to do it yourself and save the $$$

I'd ask what I was going to get before they started.

I dont mean to flame or anything, but what is so hard about doing this type of 'tune up' yourself? Fuel filter i can understand, but spark plugs and air filter can almost be done with my eyes closed. Ignition wires, distributor cap and rotor is a little harder, but certainley dosent take a shop to do for you. Oil change is depending if you have the tools (jack or ramps, stands, chocks....wrenches) available.

Cap and rotor for our car are fairly pricey, figure $70 for the two of them. Ignition wires are alot, i think my father bought my Bosch set for $150 almost (i think). Spark plugs are like $4 each at the auto store. Airfilter is problably less than $10, or $50 if you go K&N.

I was REALLY hoping someone would post this. With what you know about the 944 (i.e. the wires are that much) if you THOUGHT that the above was what you were getting would you not question the total being too low? Cap and Rotor assembly is 68 bucks or so depending on which manufacturer you buy from.

My point is, if you expected:
Spark Plug change
Air Filter
Fuel Filter
Oil Change

How would you expect it for 150 bucks?

The customer is always right, especially when they are wrong :>)

That sounds about right.
