Yep, that really does suck.what a mess!
Looking at the positives, you'll get the front end back looking pristine without any stone chips.
Hopefully it'll not be too tedious a process of getting it sorted.

Really sorry this happened to you and the car.
From the photos though, it seems unlikely the insurance will repair that degree of damage.
Hopefully you have a stated value insurance that will treat you well.

that is my thinking. I don't think they will even try to fix it. I have it valued at $20k with my insurance. Not sure how the person who hit me will try and pay out with their insurance. Missouri is a fault state, so the person at fault has to cover damages. If they low ball me, my insurance I think covered the difference.

Sorry to hear it. Always keep the option open for buying the car back if/after they total it, even if you do not want it please give one of us the chance to buy it to fix or parts!

update....had a body shop that specializes in European Classic cars take a look. They advised me to "let this one go".
would take months to find parts and cost prohibitive. Spend $30k to save a $20k car.

A shop will be tasked with finding new parts, and paying shop rates which quickly outspend the insurance company. Your car is a perfect candidate for a guy who has access to a turbo nose and willing to take on a real nice project. The 16V drivetrain, the transmission and your beautiful interior all add up to about 5gs. As I mentioned before, please see what your settlement will be, and then ask how much to buy it back. Then, in honor of your late father-in-law, please offer it up to one of us to save before it gets chopped up. OR, do some legwork see what you can get the parts for... strip it down, do what you need to make it drive-able, someone can cage the car and race it!!

I know your car had history with your family, but if the insurance company wants to indemnify you, here you go..

With your low mileage I'd have to say you about nailed your 20k stated value.

Heartbreaking. I remember the backstory on your father-in-laws car, keeping it in the family. Mistake by another driver totals a beautiful Porsche. It sure looks like superficial damage and body parts can be had if the frame is intact…but you’d still have a salvaged title. So sorry to see this, but good luck on whatever you decide.

What a shame. The only upside is that no one was injured. Cars can be replaced, people cannot. I am on board with Dan in regards to buying the car back and selling it outright to someone that will bring the car back. No sense in letting the car get crushed. It's a beautiful car with more than just monetary value.
