Default What programs/files should I have on my garage computer?

Last nite Andy needed some torque specs from me, and this has jump-started my project to load some 944-related stuff on my garage computer for reference while I am getting greasy. (don't want to walk into the house and dirty up the home system or my other laptop) It's a Dell Pentium III laptop in the perfect color, black (grease be damned!).

So after working on it a bit last nite, I have the usual stuff (acrobat reader, IE, word, excell, etc) plus:

PET
Factory Manuals in PDF format
All of the Clarks Garage pages as of 06/17/04

Any other programs or files that anyone else has on their garage computers that they think are useful while working on these cars?

Thanks!

Jeremy

I guess I should have mentioned that I want to NOT have to access the internet. Sorry! (that's why I put the clarks garage stuff on it last nite.......)

You need an internet connection for Rennlist obviously and a photo software program to upload pics from the digicam to the aforementioned Rennlist.

Unless you think "Metric", a good converter might be handy
Add plastic foil cover over the keyboard.
This at least will allow you to read the text on the keys again once the cover is removed and most probably will prevent damage to the membrane switches. (ever seen one that has been in a shop for a couple of months??)

Why would you NOT want an internet connection out there? Get a wireless card in the thing. I have found that having rennlist and other pages available while you are working on the car, is invaluable.

Plus if you had internet, you could hook up a web cam to provide a "live feed" of you while working on your car, to provide live humor to those of us on the board here

Do you guys want an honest answer?

(It's because if I had Rennlist access while in the garage, I would waste too much time surfing and not enough time working on the car. I gotta make the door into the house my "Renn-Lock" (sorta like an airlock). Otherwise, I'd never get anything done out there )

"Why would you NOT want an internet connection out there? "

I used to have wireless to laptop out in the garage, never got any work done. Each email coming in would send a chime, and the Rennlist was too addicting. Gotta draw the line somewhere.
