Default Porsche Cayenne V8 swap into 944?

Over the years there has been considerable discussion about swapping a V8 into a Porsche 944, particularly a Chevy small block LS, as well as a VW/Audi 07K five cylinder engine.

But, what about Porsche-made V8 engines, such as NA or Turbo Cayenne, which reportedly make 350-450 hp? Anybody tried a Porsche V8 swapped into a 944? Results?

Kelly Moss racing slotted a 928 engine in a 944 years ago. Seems like there was a substantial amount of modification.

The primary issue is the distance across the cylinder heads...the 944 is a bit tight for many V8s.

The issue, like many others like this, only requires $.

I measured one recently and it would be too wide/tall to fit under a 944 hood. It’s also very heavy for the displacement despite being aluminum.

Not a great swap candidate imo.

big advantage the UZ series has is the single cam sprocket at the front and then the internal 2nd cam drive. keeps it compact.

Most DOHC V8 including the Cayenne have 2 cam sprockets at the front of the valve cover which widens the engine considerably.

The UZ is a cool engine candidate. about 26" wide at max width across the heads. What's the solution for the sump positioning?

I used a 250hp 3.9L V6 in my car mostly due to being extremely compact, cheap, and light. My engine is about 16" across the heads/valve covers and weighs the same dressed as a 944 engine..

Default Not possible

I tried once (15 years ago) to put in a Cayenne turbo engine into a 951, NO Way, the engine is it’s way far to high, to be honest it’s a heavy and big engine, there is much more better options,
I have some pics somewhere of trying to put the engine in the 944 bay,
291kg that’s just to heavy!
The only way fitting I’m this engine is making a completely new front chassis and suspension!

Dang. 290kg is heavier than an Iron block LS engine with manifolds clutch and accessories.

@V2Rocket : Any chance you still have access to that Cayenne V8? I'm trying to find the bore spacing on those engines; I want to know how it compares to the 928.

Cheers
