Looking on the internet for a project car and stumbled on this ad. Someone might be interested in it. I might buy it if I can get it for 5k, and drop a supercharger in it, but I'm waiting for my 951 first.
So if anyone is looking for one, here it is:

The seller is full of crap, i called him a few weeks ago and he gave me the run around. The car is actually an '83 that has been upgraded to 'S2 Specs'. He lied to me numerous times after asking if it was an '88 and an S2. I was skeptical like judd as the S2 wasnt even marketed until '89. Another lister had a run in with this fellow a few years ago.

Yep - I also saw this car for sale again. (www.wantadpress.com) Same car - probably the same idiot trying to pawn off a 1983 944 as an S2.
Isn't there a law about this? He is advertising the car as a 1988, yet 90% of the car (motor, interior) is a 1983. I hate when people do false advertising!
-Z-man.

I was actually thinking of buying the car as a daily driver and putting some forced induction into it. I was going to give him a call until I read up on this post again. Nice job guys investigating this.

I don't really understand how someone can upgrade a 83 car to "S2 specs" and try to pass it off as an S2 if it really is not.
Even if he swapped the interior, motor, trans, brakes, suspension, body panels, etc. it is still not technically an S2. Unless he has the cajones to find the vin plates from a totalled one, then *maybe* he would be successful in passing it off as one, until it is registered.
If it still has a 2.5 motor in it and early interior, then what has he "upgraded"? Brakes, suspension, and body panels?
That's totally faulty logic. Hmm. I'm gonna post my car for sale as being a "1989 Porsche 951 Cup Car" then. How much should I ask for it? $20K? Any takers?

tifo, when i called the guys bluff about it being an '83 he got pretty defenseive. He started explaining his father had it updated at a shop in Belmar, cost something like $13k. He was desperate to keep me interested i could tell, he was trying to think of anything to say almost. He said something about a chip giving it the extra power...other than that i stopped paying attention to what he was saying to me, i just kept giving him the 'uh-huh'. The car has the turbo/S2 front end, but still has the early interior from what he was describing (not to mention its in the ugly poop brown color).
