I have an 85 944 that has Boxster wheels. I would like to get some wheels that are more period correct. I have located some cookie cutters locally but I'm wondering if they have the older model backspacing or newer backspacing. I have pictures but the wheels are an hour and a half away so I was hoping there was a way to determine what backspacing they might have before making the trip.
As a general statement, if you have a Porsche part number and can find it in the applicable PET, the PET description will include the offset of that particular wheel. Easier said than done in that you have to have a part number and be able to find the appropriate PET that has that part number. I think most Porsche OEM wheels not only have the part number cast into the back side of the wheel but they also have a code that gives the diameter and ET (offset).
As far as what will work, you can find the offset of the OEM wheels in the PET for 1985 944s (it looks like most are ET 23.3 mm).
Thank you for the replies! I had thought that all cookie cutters were early offset but I couldn't find that definitively stated anywhere. According to the chart and the pictures I was sent, these wheels are 15s but I'm not sure if they are 15 x 7s or 15 x 6s. The last two numbers that tell the width aren't on the wheels (not with the rest of the part number anyway and I can't find them elsewhere). So, I guess I'll find out when I go to look at them.
Based off the part number, they are from a 911, and are 15x6.
Thank you! It goes to show I can't read a chart! I wonder how the 15 x 6s would look. I'm not looking to have the tires rub the fenders but I don't want a ton of empty space in the wheelwell either. A happy medium would be great.
Also, to further demonstrate my ignorance with wheels and tires, 15 x 6 seems something of a rare size wheel today (back when I was a teenager, we all wanted 15 x7s or 8s on our muscle cars). I wonder how hard it will be to find tires. I did a cursory search and found plenty of lawn mower tires!
I picked them up yesterday. They fit great on the front but the back has longer wheel studs so the lug nuts won't fully seat. 8m thinking about using open ended lug nuts until I install shorter studs.

If you have an early 85 car then you should have factory wheel spacers on the rear....are these installed? Someone may have put on longer studs for some reason but if you are missing the spacer this could be part of your problem though the boxster wheels would likely not have fit at all without a spacer as well.
I really need to take a picture of the wheels that were on it. They look like Boxster wheels but they have a big spacer on the back. I tried to remove it but it is attached to the wheels (or is there an embarrassingly easy way to remove them that I'm just not seeing?). I've never seen Boxster wheels up close before so I'm not sure if this is normal or not. What width spacer would I need to work with these cookie cutters (i.e. what was the width of the factory spacer)?
Probably going to show my ignorance here and find out these aren't Boxster wheels. I'll take better pictures of the spacer tomorrow. I feel like I've taken these wheels off and put them back on a 100 times over the last few days and will have them off again tomorrow.
Also. I know they don't look the best with that rattle can paint job but a previous owner tried to pain them red with no prep so tons of runs and the original wheel showing through. I took the old paint off but they were stained red in places.
I just found that out! My curiosity got the best of my laziness and I took a wheel off. It did say Cup 1. I'm assuming that the spacer on the back is integral to the wheel. I was hoping it was separate but it won't come off.
