This is not true. At least on the early cars. It will die immediately if unplugged.

The firing order is printed right on the cam tower! Lol.

Acantor,
It is an '83. I would wiggle the 9 pin disconnect plug above the brake vacuum booster. The thick red/blue wire at the top is the 12v supply to the fuel injectors. This is were the pin corrosion can occur.

No. It is the ONLY large wire loom and plastic connector that is located in the engine compartment. The connector which can be separated is above and behind slightly to the left of the centerline of the brake vacuum booster

If it helps, I have videos of everything significant that I have done to the car since I've had it. Still working on getting a couple engine videos out but here is the channel: https://youtube.com/c/MileHighMechanic1

It might help some of you to understand what I have had to do to the car, and where I am currently at, and maybe some details will become apparent if I have done something incorrectly.

That is the connector if you have an '83 like mine. Looks like the previous owner(s) did some modifications. You can peal back the black tape to find the red/blue wire. The red/ blue wire is the. Identical position on both sides of the disconnect. It looks there were previous issues at that connection
After further review, I am guessing that the previous owner maybe bypassed the plug for the fuel injector 12v supply and spliced in a new lead near the plug. It appears a red/? wire was clipped at the connector plug

As T&T said, the red/blue wire is the positive supply to the fuel injectors. The ECU pulses the negative side of the injectors to cause them to open. Corrosion in this connector could overheat the connection during startup, causing high resistance resulting in the injectors not firing. Use a contact cleaner/lubricant on this connector while you are waiting for the pressure regulator (that is an actually known problem) to arrive. Cleaner/lube cannot hurt, is relatively cheap, and is another possible explanation for symptoms.

on the inlet side of the plug the wire comes from ECU and on the outlet side of plug, the red/blue wire runs to a junction splice for each 12,v supply to each fuel injector

So what does that mean if the last owner cut the wire. For the car to even be able to fire, the wire had to have been just replaced right? Maybe he ran it directly from the ecu to the injectors? Idk why anyone would do this unless it was for some sort of purpose.
