$80 from my local mech, $100 from gprparts.com OEM Goetze rings.

Anyway, if you're doing rings you're gonna need to do rod bearings do.

If by "bottom end" you meant rod bearings, then no there's no need to take the engine out. Though if you're going to be doing rings you'll need to take the head off again. At that point it may be worth just yanking the engine.

 

i wouldn't mind checking them out and buying except it seems like there has been alot of scams on ebay lately. I will try to contact the seller and ask him a lot of questions before i buy though. Thanks seb928s

Adrial I haven't checked the prices what the rings go for so I thought that was a good deal.

Daniel check out the prices from them. Also does anyone know if these OEM are like motor mounts? If so then go with OE.

Before you start ordering parts. I would pull the head and make sure the cylinder walls are ok. Those are poor #'s. You may need a new short block.

 

what do you mean i might need a new short block by the #'s. You are scaring me now saying i might need a new block in that case i might just sell it

 

First thing you need to do is take your car out of that shop, and dont ever bring it back. They cant get to the bottom end cause theres a cage? Run... did they install that wastegate? Don;t go back there, find a good place if you need a shop... otherwise, yes, try and so this yourself...

If you are not confident with your mechanic . Have another mechanic preform a leak down again. To verify the results. I didn't mean to scare you. Maybe your mechanic isn't up to the task of working on these car and is misleading you. That's why you need a second opinion. I have over boosted my car more than once and never have blown a head gasket. Once you mod these cars you also bypass fail safes. such as over boost protection. All I am saying is if your mechanic is correct. rings may not be the only fault. That is why I said pull the head and check for cylinder damage before you order any parts. You could also check for damage with a bore scope.

DONT let that shop work on it anymore. You need to get some sort of settlement outta those guys (lost use of vehicle, YOU paying them to learn on YOUR car.. etc.) Better off being your own wrench. It's a steep learning curve- but there are a lot of 'listers out there who will help you.
Then you can be satisfied with what you worked on yourself. And know it's done right.

wait a minute....i may be reading this wrong but did the shop install the WG improperly?

 

well another place installed it wrong except i asked this company after the first headgasket to check to see if it is backwards and they told me no. So then after everything was done i drove it home nad blew another one. I just got done talking to the guy and he said he would work on it after hours for $500 for new rings new crankcase seals rod bearing and anything else that needs it done there. The guy was very understanding and decided to do the work cheap so good news. that $500 included labor and parts

 

It sounds like that offer is a good way to waste another $500. I've got to agree with everyone else. Take the car out of this shop, and do it yourself, or bring it to a better shop.
