i have an older car, so i have the welded in kind. my friend's wife backed onto his front of 83 944 and the body shop came to check mine out before it was wrecked. and they were just looking for alignment measurements with the hood and lights. and the body guy told me "der der der" which means the new one they bought as a replacement was for a later style and the older style already has the bolt holes. so they didnt weld it on. is this actually possible? the new panel i have is a weld on type also. does anyone have pics of where the bolts go? are they actually bolts or sheetmetal screws?

yes, older 944's and 924's have welded in panels. The newer panels are the same except the body has clips w/ the threads in them and screws to hold the nose on. This was done once intercoolers became part of the unit. This is very common, in fact, i am putting a 931 nose on my 89 944 very soon and will most likely have to drill the holes to bolt it in.
