Rice? Ricer?
Sorry for my ignorance but I´m not sure about the meaning of "rice" and "ricer" in your posts.
I suspect that it has something to do with bad taste in cars....
Is that true?

Yea, my defenetion of the term would generally be someone who just goes over the top with modifications (being looks and peformance). A ricer to me at first were generally imports of the Japanese label...but my perception has slowly changed over to domestics and euro imports as well. Common examples are cars with badges that dont belong such as Skyline GT-R badges...Turbo badges..etc. Anyone with excessivley loud mufflers that sound similar to high peformance popcorn poppers. Windsheild washer jet neons and those incredibly tacky 'euro' taillights. My favorite being those incredibly massie aluminum wings bolted to the trunk.

It refers to people who customize their Japanese cars. Big body kits, lots of stickers, oversized wings, on asian cars, are "riced-out" cars. It is offensive to some as a cultural stereotype. People used to call japanese cars rice-burners for the same reason, as if everything in asia ran on rice. In the real old days, people used to call Italian cars spaghetti burners. There are debates about whether it is offensive. Suffice it to say that using the term will not get you into public office.

It's the also the four door cars trying to be sport cars and the car that looks like they didn't plan the car/plane to be whatever it is with that wing on there. It's kinda like the old German car that can go in the water but I think they think they can fly.

Those guys are practically an institution on the www.fark.com Photoshop "contests." Myself, I love the photoshop contests, there's some good stuff on them most of the time.
The Icy Hot Stuntaz are a "fark cliche" technically but I'm not going to go into explaining all that for those not in the know. Definitely worth a look though, just look for the Photoshop tags on the left side of the subjects and then look at the comments link on the right side of the subject. It's hit and miss of course but if you look at enough of em you'll see those guys eventually in some incarnation.

Rice, while originally directed at souped up cars of Asian origin, has grown to a whole 'nother meaning. It still MOSTLY applied to imports, as they are the ones with the gay coffee can exhausts and picnic table with fins for spoilers. The neon lights and seatback set to touch the rear seat... that's rice. It can and has been done on non-imports such as Escorts, Neons, and many others. To me "rice" is the gaudy, untasteful and meaningless modification of cars. While trying to make their cars LOOK fast, they never make them faster than your runof the mill factory civic! And while thinking it looks and sounds kool... it looks and sounds like ****! For some reason they don't realize that while trying to look good to others, they are being completely laughed at by most on the road!
As for ricing out a muscle car... oh it's been done. Thanks to a black late model mustang (V6, lol) on campus that has recently clad chrome wheels, a large Cobra R knockoff spoiler malplaced and some dragon graphics on the sides... I have coined a new term that is now used by my circle of friends... Uncle Bens... American Rice
It's just an abomination to the whole car culture... like I said recently in another thread: some call these people the next generation of hot rodders... well I think I have just as much right to say it as anyone esle (I'm 20, I used to drive a Honda... didn't rice it out though!)... this is the next generation of posers.

i hate the whole style thing that they have but........ yes its true its the new hotrods. not because of muscle but because of trend. its the same way that shaggy hair is in style now.....i think it still is. but hot rods were the trend in the 50s and 60s. fast in the furious deinitly resurrected interest in cars. and i bet since theres so many of us youngsters on this board, a lot were persuaded by the movie and trend>>>>>>>>>BUT THANK GOD YOU GUYS FOUND A BETTER MARQUE AND FOLLOWING. hot rods are still cooler to me though. im probably going to get some hate mail.

Kenny... the way I see it though, it isn't a love of cars in the least. They aren't throwing neon lights and such on their cars because they love their cars. I have a bunch of ricer friends. They don't have interest in cars at all, they have an interest in "looking kool." Well... at least trying to
Yes, I would agree F&F did pursuade a lot of people to do things to their cars, but not all are due to any fascination or interest. People who modify imports, like my 3 roomies, and who modify them well (I'm not sure I'd put them in that category yet lol) deserve respect. People who put obnoxious stereos and lights in their car don't. And don't worry, I'm sure I'll get a little flaming too, Ken!
By the way... for those of us in the latest generation (i.e. 18-22 year olds) who DIDN'T get into cars after F&F came out... and who can't remember a time in their life when cars weren't driving back and forth through our heads...
cheers!

Now I understand !!!!
I found ricing a car to be just a way to show bad taste, they probably show bad taste in other venues of life (and they like to show off).
