Question Tire Decision: Yokohama ES100 or Falken ZE-512

I am trying to decide on tires for my 944 NA with new Boge suspension components.

The tire size I am going for is 225/50-15

I realize that a lot of people here like the ES100. But has anyone used the Falken ZE-512. They were rated #1 by consumer reports, don't know if it means anything. The reviews online seem okay.

But I would like to get the opinion of Porsche people.

The cost in my size for Yokohama is $84 and Falken is $58.

My driving would be mostly street, once a year at TWS.

More people here have experience with the Yoko's and they are a very good tire for the money.
I had the Falken Ziex 512's on my old 85.5 944. Mine were 225/50 on all four corners. I was very impressed with them. Very good grip wet or dry and very quiet. Looked good too. For $58 per tire that's hard to beat. I'd buy them again for whatever that's worth.

I currently have Falken ZE-512 on 15" wheels ~50% tread (courtesy of the PO). They are my everyday shoes, but I'm not at all happy with them in the wet -- I feel like I'm slipping and sliding with the least bit of rain. Scary even in light snow -- I switched out my snow tires last week back to these wheels and I'm regretting it...

Great for daily drives in the dry, but feels like a pretty high wear rating -- I'm trying very hard to wear them out so I can replace them. Kinda noisy, in my opinion -- but I can only hear them when the stereo off and my engine is running smoothly for a change.

Never used ES100 -- so couldn't really compare.

I have a set of ES100's on my autocross car. Work nicely. I plan to put a set on my Turbo S when the AVS Sports wear out. The AVS Sports were nice, but I' rather save the money and go with the ES100's.

I had a set of Falkens on a Scirocco a few years back, they were pretty good on dry pavement for what they cost but $u@%ed in the rain, were even worse in snow and only went about 8000 miles before they were shot. I didn't get another set! Looking back I'm glad that setup never saw any autox or track time!

I've had the ZE512s for about 18 months and really like them, like the previous comment, quiet, great in the rain and pretty decent in the snow.

I would definatley buy them again. The love 'em, hate 'em is really odd.

Hmm. Mine were good in the rain. They were new though. They may lose their wet traction as they get more mileage on them. Kinda like the Kuhmo's I have on my car now.

Yea, it's probably not the fault of the tires as much as my own damn fault for removing my snow tires one week too early.... Needless to say, Blizzaks handle infinitely better in the snow!

Just yesterday I put on some ES 100's I'm happy with them. My brother, on his 2.5 RS, is on his second set. In his car, they inspire a lot of confidence, and feal real good. Progressive break point, at least on his car. Large improvement in road holding, and good grip. real good in the wet a well.

Alok - contact Kevin, he can do you a great deal on the RE-750, the total should be about the same as either of the others.
