Default 944 Engine mount replacement help

Can I replace the engine mount at exhaust side without lowering the cross member?
My exhaust, torque tube and clutch housing will als be removed for other maintenance. I tought, maybe, the engine would then be "free" enough to rise the engine and replace the mount without lowering the cross member.
Not planning to do the other side. Both are already new after engine rebuild, but exhaust side started leaking oil from the beginning. (aftermarket part)

Yes. Take the exhaust manifold off and you'll have direct access to the engine carrier from above. Since your exhaust is already out, it'll be even easier to get the manifold out of the way. You'll have to relieve some pressure from above by raising the engine just a tad but it's the easiest way to do it.

Not sure of your 944 model, but here was my experience on a '88 base. Good luck. (Sounds like your experience will be easier since your taking other stuff off of the engine).

I would by far prefer lowering the crossmember to removing the manifold. A question of working with old rusted and corroded fasteners on the manifold vs. working with old oily, not corroded bolts on the crossmember.
Here is my experience.

You can do this without a lot of drama. I've always gotten by simply raising the engine a little, jacking with a piece of wood (2x12) under the oil pan. I know others have had a bit more difficulty, but somehow I have not.

Thanks for all the tips! I liked the idea of royalschwarz to take off the exhaust manifold. In meentime I did it twice. On a 2.5NA and a S2. Both went very easy.
Her are some pictures of the S2:

With the alu mount out:

There is something very wrong with that engine! You've somehow lost the 30 years worth of grease and dirt. Better get that checked out...

Seriously, that engine is TOO clean!

I did it the same way although my engine will probably never look that clean.
