If you drive the car much and have to park it in the sun often, get the dash mat (carpet).
If your car is garaged and rarely spends all day parked in the sun, the Coverlay looks great, provided it is molded properly and installed well.

The 928 forum is having a group buy on a leather dash cover that looks really good for 330. I wonder who is making it for them and if we could talk them into doing one for our cars.

leather !!!
we should find out!
how much?
my current cover was a Cover-lay brand. I didn't pay for it, it was in the plastic, came with the car. I believe the return is only for the original buyer. I'll try and find all the papers at home. Maybe I can atleast get payed back for the pain and suffering of seeing that thing cracking and swelling in the sun

I go back and forth between taking off the "carpet" and putting it back on. It makes me a little too self-aware that there is carpet on my dash and someone is going to loudly point it out.

well.. i dont know if anyone else noticed. but if you get a carpet one, make suire it is the same color as your dash. i got a black one to cover my burgandy dash.. big mistake. i thought it would cover it because i was going to paint the lower dash black too.. but you see the edges of the old dash, and it doesnt surround teh instrument pod.
unless my problem is i didnt attach it right, what did anyone else do to attach it? just those couple velcro pieces that it comes with?
i think it looks cheap, especially when its not the right color. but to each his own

if you decide to go with the dash cover, and you want black. i can give you mine for 25 dollars (shipping is included in the 25) since i have no use for it and it is brand new. only layed it on my dash for 5 minutes to look at it.

thats a really good deal...i'll go sit in my car for few minutes and see if black wouldn't look bad on the brown interior
i have a black steering wheel and i'm thinking of getting a black leather shifter. can't imagine it would look too bad.
i'll check on the leather and then i'll send you a PM.

The price for the leather dash cover in the 928 forum is regular 370 but they are having a group buy for 330. In that tread the guy states that he can get any porsche color for that price as long as 3 or more people want it. They are also making leather A pillar covers too.

My brother has a brown interior and has a black carpet dash cover..my dash is black and I used the carpet one for several years and the dahs is still like brand new. The Coverlay ones look better, but I think the carpet actually does a better job at protecting. I don't drive the car as much anymore, so I just take the carpet off, and if I'm parking it in the sun I lay it back on there..protects when it needs it, and comes off easily when I don't.
