Default No clutch pressure????

Ok, I woke up this morning, went outside so I can warm up the car. I have no clutch pedal pressure. The pedal travels to the floor never disengaging. I'm thinking the slave cylinder took its last sh*t.
What do you guys think it is?

I also have spongy brakes, but they still work properly, so I don't think it's the master cylinder.

yea, i'll bleed the brakes, but I'd like the car to be able to make it into the garage on its own power. I don' think its going to go very far without the clutch disengaging. I'm going to try to bleed the clutch slave and see what happens.

Looks like it might be time for me to replace the hydraulics as well. Didn't take to long for the p-car to be out of commission.

Does this car use the same master cylinder for the clutch and the brake? How hard is it to replace. It looks like this may be my problem area.

If bleeding doesn't solve it, replace both master and slave cyls, as one rarely goes bad without the other failing shortly afterwards.

They don't seem to expensive, so I'll do them both. I don't know where the clutch master cylinder is though. And when I finally found the slave I couldn't find a 7mm wrench or have an 18mmor 19mm for the starter bolts.

I'll get it done though. Has anyone done it before, is it complicated?

<edit> I forgot to add, the sypmtoms of a bad a bad slave or master cylinder is "the pedal travels to the floor with little or no resistance, and cannot engage gears" correct?

Also, I've never had this happen before, so do they just dramatically fail out of know where or does it happen slowly?

I just finished a master/slave replacement (always do both!) on the 83 yesterday. I had the same no pedal syndrome after the car sat awhile. Bleeding is a snap if you have a home-made or Motive pressure bleeder. You have to move a few vacuum lines around to get to the master, nothing complicated though. Pull the clip on the pedal-to-rod connector, pull the rod and boot off and it pulls out through the firewall with a little twisting. It's a good idea to get a new reservoir-to-master hose, you will need to cut the old crimp type clamp off with sidecutters. Check if the firewall gasket comes with your new master cyl.; I ended up making one to keep water out where it comes through.

Disconnect your battery positive, disconnect the hot leads at starter and remove the starter. I find it easier to bleed the slave before you bolt it back up, the bleed valve is very close to the body. I'm glad I did not start the car after the problem; my clutch travel inspection hole was loaded with brake fluid and would probably have flung itself all over the clutch.
Good Luck and bleed, bleed, bleed until it feels right.

And in answer to your question, yes they can fail all at once, no warning at all.

yep, I just ordered the master and slave cylinders from paragon. If everything goes well on my court date on thursday, this should be done next week. Maybe when i bleed the system I'll have enough pressure to get it in the garage.

Good Luck...it's real pretty easy. I can't state how much better a homemade or Motive pressure bleeder makes the job that much easier. If you want to make a good home made one for less than $25, here's a link:

http://www.bmw-m.net/TechProc/bleeder.htm

I've used this thing for 10 years now and just bought a Motive because my seals were getting weak on the old one. Don't forget to adjust the freeplay at the pedal if you haven't done it in awhile.

Ok, I ordered the master and slave before I even decided to bleed the system, but turns out I'm glad I did. Went down there, and the clutch never regains pressure, just air bubbles each and everytime.

And just to make it worse since the car is on the street in the wrong direction, my idiot neighors called the cops. Tried to get me a ticket, luckily a whole bunch of other people and the person I believe called them were parked on the wrong side anyway. But now, since the car isn't moving anywhere for at least a week, I'm going to end up getting a ticket.

This is why I don't like letting my sister drive the 944, she chirps second everytime she leaves, does 65 around my block at 1:00 AM with the windows down and the music blasting
