Dream circumstances:

Cruiser car: 993 4S
Track car: 951 modified extensively
Daily driver: Pepper Turbo, to suck up gas, or a Boxster (hey it has two trunks, that qualifies as practical)

Maybee i shold speak up here.

I'v had 2 different 924' and a 944, and i even sold my brand new 2001 peugeot 206 CC to get the 944, since i did'nt like the drivers feeling in the Peugeot, and missed the 924 feeling.

In the 944 i missed the "old raw sports car feeling" that i had in my 1970 MGB. The 944 felt more floating, and comfortable, like a compromise between comfort and driver's experience.

Since i tried some different 911's it felt to me like a middle between the old MGB felling and the 944. More Raw unsofisticated driving, but not as uncomforty as the MG. That appealed to me much.

Also the design off the 911 is in my eye a classical sculpture that makes me smile and feel good, especially the back end is really good, and the 993 is in my eye the most beautifull off them all (but beyond my budget, cost about $100K in my country).

So i did want a 911, but would like to keep the 944, aas it's so practical, and drives so well.

But since car's and insurance, and taxes are so expensive in my country (Denmark) i can only afford one "special car".

Thruogh cristmas time i looked at my economy and found out that now was the time to consider the 911 change, when i have the possibilities. One newer know what happens i 2 year's time from now. This might bee last chance in life to own a 911 for mee. So my choise was between the 944 and 911, and i took the 911. Remember i know the 944, and can return that route if i like to, but the new experiences with the 911 does not come by just dreaming about it.

Just DO IT.

No 911 for me. I just plain don't like the concept of a rear engine, air cooled design.Too Volkswagenish for me. I like to have the engine in front of me with coolant going through it. I don't care about the supposed status or prestige that accompanies ownership of one a 911 or any of its' variants.
As far as 914's go, I am astonished (since joining Rennlist) to find that there is high interest in what has to be one of the biggest styling snafus of all time. To me, it's a toss up as to which is more painful to look at, a 914 or a Pontiac Aztec.

I want one of each model, starting with the 356 and ending with a Cayenne. This includes 904's, 917's, 962's, etc.

I look at it this way: Go big or don't go at all.

Have you ever DRIVEN a 911 or 914?
Prestige? Status? Not the point of 911 ownership for me.

Of course you can return. If and when that time should come consider the 951. They offer a much stiffer chassis with incredible performance potential. The 951 will not give you that "on-the-edge" 911 "raw" performance feeling. What you gain is more comfort, more roominess, as expected. And much more predictable driving experience. The 911's interior reminds me a lot of my ex-VW Super Beetle. In comparison the 944's interior is much more contemporary. You are right about the 911's nice classic lines. But I love the 951's racing track looking flared fenders, hide-away/pop headlights. And the 951's flatter roof line seems to place it lower, closer to the ground. Our 951's have often been mistakened for Ferraris, that speaks volumes about style and design Honestly I cannot see myself going back to a 911 from a 951 for technical reasons. The 911 does oooze with lots of snob appeal.

IMHO: The 911 people who rant that our cars are not Porsches are the ones who are stuck up on 911 mysticism and snob appeal. Zen and Marc this message was not meant for you. People know who I am referring to

I would have to disagree. I would say a mid-engined design has the greatest potential of any sports car. Perhaps that's why all the top race cars are mid-engined.

I remember a quote one time about the 911, it was something like:
"The 911 is a horrible design executed brilliantly."

I want a 911 so i can get my **** whooped by the autocross champs instead of gallagher and adrial.

I want a 911 because it is cheaper to maintain than a 944.

No, wait, I want a 911 so I can look down at adrial and gallagher at the autocrosses. Yeah thats the ticket. Thats why everyone that said they want a 911 is/was a 944 owner.

Are MetroNY porsche owners more sophisticated than the rest of the country? I was never looked down upon for driving a 944, or an RX-7. In fact when i shared my RX7 with a club racer he had noting but raves about the car. I never experienced the snobbery some here are so paraniod of (except maybe with the mullet from gelefsky , but thats another story).

EZ the more you write, the bigger the hole you dig.

Who doesn't want this?

I have always wanted a 911.

I love the engine sound. The styling. A Black 911 Turbo with black leather interior is one of my dream cars.

The other dream car is a 1969 Mustang Mach I with a 428 CJ ( or is a 429, I always forget the number ). All Silver with black hood and interior. I also love the sound of a rumbly V8. Quote from a friend of mine, " I want a car that goes really really fast and gets sh!tty gas mileage."

Although I would compromise for "Eleanor" in "Gone in 60 Seconds"...

With that said, the 944 has definitly put itself on the list of favorite cars and will probably maintain a place in my driveway. It is a great car.

Now a 993 TT is a serious beast, I doubt I will ever get one in my hands.

My dream 911 (of which I hope to own one day) would be a Black on Black 930 Slantnose... preferably in RUF trim and modded to ludicris speed capabilities.

I want to be nearly scared to drive the damn thing, and I want everyone around it to be scared too!

Tom, you have one nice looking firebird. I love the mid 60's to early 70's muscle cars. I am partial to the Mustangs from 65 to 70, but I could make an exception for a firebird that nice Heck, the wife might like it too since it is a convertible.

I'm not a fan of whale tails on non-turbo 911s, like what's on the '83 Tom R. posted. Fact is, my first Porsche project was removing the one on my targa - they're too big for the Carrera flares and make the car look out of proportion. And in my case, the previous owner 1) didn't add a front spoiler, so my front end got light at speeds over 100 mph and 2) he removed the SC script and added "turbo" which was just lame.
