You and many others are caught up in the mystic of the 911. A truely out dated design.

would love to have a 911, would have bought one if i had the funds. was pleased to find that my car is faster than the same model year 911, though!
and i've cut my mechanic teeth on this car, so i feel when i get the 911 i'll be ready to do all the work on it. maybe even get an old SC, and rebuild the engine.

Used to own a 993TT but got into some financial crisis. Sold the TT and bought the 951. I dont mind having a TT but nothing desperate.
For now, i would rather put cash on a 3.0T engine + Motec and a landrover.

A 911 series, not really, I'd much prefer a late 968 in green, or a pristine 928. Speaking of dreaming alpenweissisnice, I vote for the TR-6 or how about a mint Cosworth Ford Cortina, or maby a Lotus Europa. Course at 6"3" putting on a Lotus Europa would make a great video for Americas Funniest Home Movie's. But Damn I loved the look of that little car. As for US muscle cars, make mine a 72 Chevelle SS454 LS-6 with close ratio muncie 4 speed and cowl induction. Oh well just rambling and dreaming.

So yes I would closely associate the two cars.

I went the other way...I just bought a 924S because my 911 ('91 C2) motor cost so much to replace that I worry about "boom" when I push it hard on the track... So I got an '88 924S on Saturday to use on the track and autocross and I'm pleased with it's balance and how easy it is to drive! While I give up power with the 924S, I find it much better balanced... On the other hand, that flat six sound is intoxicating...

This is what I'd love to have! I drove this for short bit. (Thanks Pete!) God! What a car! 993TT. (I just don't think I could ever bring myself to spend that kind of money on ANY car though).

it's 'mystique' not 'mystic'
haha, so cal, how wrong you are. i dont want one cause its cool or because its the only 'true porsche' or anything like that. i want one because i like them, and they (even for the time) had the greatest potential of any sports car. i'm not going to get into a giant pissing match here, but i will say a few things... although i respect the 993TT as my favorite street car of all time, i'd still go for an old 911, same reason i love my early 944 better than a late one or even a 951. they were more raw, more drivers car, and they took more skill to drive fast. sure they aren't overboard with power, but who needs power when you can drive well? right now i'm very content, and one day i will be with an old 911. i gotta say though, when i have it made, i'm pretty sure i'll be looking to get twin boosted in the last 'real 911' variant.

Mr Avionics, I was on a rant and left out the Europa - my choice would be Series 3 in JPS livery. Also, a Jensen Interceptor III convertible.
This place always has some interesting rides of that bent...

If I had the money I'd be driving a 911 for sure.... 993, 996, whichever. I have brand loyalty, not model loyalty... sorry guys.
Couldn't agree more. I'm more than happy with my 944. Some people don't even have the luxary of peace and freedom, nevermind a car, or a Porsche for that matter!
we shouldn't forget how fortunate we are
