Default 993 or 944??

This is pretty simple. You have just been promoted and make more than you ever thought imaginable. Money is no object to you now. You have been driving your 944 for a while and you like it (maybe you dont, I dont know). Here is the question:

If the above were true which would you be driving? Dont factor things like repair bills, etc. Just which car would you rather have. Please say why, I am interested to know. I would especially love to hear the response of those who would rather have the 944.

Both,
You ain't going to get crap from a 944 (even 951) when you sell it so keep it along with 993.

I bet I could sell all my 944's for a 993, but why? I'd be stuck with 1 993.

Nope I'd rather have a few 944's

More options....

BTW... in Turbo S vs 993... I keep Turbo S. Spend the 1/2 money to make really nice and rest goes to other things (like a 944-spec Car)

If that scenario happened today, I'd keep the 951, mod her to kingdom come and such, and wait for a 997

I've always loved the voluptuous shape of the 993. Especially the widebody. I would also consider it to be the end-all be-all of the last of the great 911's. (I'm not saying the 996 and the soon to be 997 aren't any better, just too refined maybe.)

The only model in the 993 line that I would pick over my modded 951 is the 993TT (actually I have considered doing this, but I've decided to continue with upgrading my 951).

My point was that both is NOT an option...no garage, no space, whatever. I was also not talking about for this money I could do this....What I want to know which would you rather have if you could afford the 993 (which would certainly cost more than the 944).

Also, I am not asking you to pick over YOUR car. If money were no object which would you have?

Depends on the purpose.

Track Car, 944. I'd feel less guilty about gutting and abusing the thing, and I think it'd be more fun at the track.

Daily Driver, 993. They're just more "refined." It'd have to be a C4S or a TT though.

Ok, I voted for the 993. I'm not crazy, a 993 is always going to be worth more than any 944. It's not a fair question, the two cars are completely different in value, resale, price point, etc. (Then you could sell the 993 and buy a gaggle of 944's.)

As I posted in another thread, I'll always have a 944 of some sort. For the money there really isn't any other car that can compare to it.
Let's say you buy a nice, clean 951 for $9K, ship it to Powerhaus and add $20,000 of power. What new car would compare to the power, handling, style, timelessness, and build quality for under $30K?

Pete, I think you are missing my point. It is really two fold. One to show that if more people here could afford them they would drive them instead (which already seems fairly obvious). The second was to point out that there are a lot of people here would would not give up their 944 no matter what. I personally, would have both but I left that off as it would have been a HUGE favorite just because of where this is posted. It is meant to make you decide between the two (even if resale, repair, etc are not taken into account).

I see your point, Matt. I've always loved the 993. When the 964 came out I thought it was ok but nothing great. When the 993 was released I thought "Wow! They finally got it right!" If I could have only one it would be a 993. I may be the odd one out here but if I had to have a 993 for my only car it would be a standard narrow body base model. Light weight and responsive. I like to keep a low profile.

definitely the 993. i like my 944 cars, but the acceleration, handling, styling, and resale value of the 944 does not compare to the 993 (just my opinion of course)

i will probably end up buying a 964 or 993 in the next year or two but will keep the 944 and use it as a DE/autocross car. so my view is really the same as many of the other listers, but for the sole purpose of this discussion, I would chose the 993
