You guys are spending too much...

1) Herbie/ 85.5/ 164,000 miles/ Dec 2000/ $1000
Got rear ended this past May with 230,000 on the clock.
Was reliable transportation for ten years.
Will live again - see #3.

2) Penelope/ 85.5/ 128,000 miles/ Jun 2008/ $2400
This is Doc Goodwench's car. Has made it to 944Fest twice.
Currently suffering from an undiagnosed engine issue.
Will be fixed this Spring - one way or another.

3) Young Herbie/ 86 951 shell/ Dec 2008/ $100

4) Stu/ 89 944 S2/ 155,000 miles/ Nov 2010/ $2000
This was posted back in April as having a dead cylinder (still does).
We picked it up over the Thanksgiving break.
I expect it to be fixed in time for 944Fest 2011.

You mean, how much did I buy it for in 1999? $4575 plus tax. How much have I *paid for it* ever since? About $30,000 I think.

1985.5 944 n-a, 2010, 110K, $700

It was a win until I got hit with newbie error: ID10T. Now it's an engine rebuild and transaxle swap while I pray my clutch doesn't need to be replaced as well.

EDIT: BUT THANKS TO THE SUPPORT I'VE GOTTEN FROM YOU GUYS, I *AM* REBUILDING NOT SCRAPPING THE DREAM!!! Thanks everyone and merry xmas/holiday/day offa work

Nowadays, what kind of 944 (no convertible, no 968 ) can you buy with 11.000$ - 12.000$ in the States? How much money is needed for a close to showroom condition car?

That kind of money will buy you a gold plated 83-87 or an extremely low mileage Turbo S IMHO

There are some cars out there in that range but many many times they aren't worth that much.

I'm thinking $12K USD will get you a showroom car (as long as you aren't the one getting into that condition)

What is a gold plated car? I'm not very familiar with the types of plates you use there

LMAO!! It was a joke, kind of like a solid gold car. Gold plating is the process of...never mind, it was just a joke meant to mean a $12K 944 should either be made of Gold or have at least $8k in cash hidden in the trunk (boot for you Euro's)
