Not sure where the wire goes as it's been awhile since I've been under the hood of an early car but the black and blue thing connects to a nipple on the back of a vacuum check valve on the brake booster. The nipple it connects to is still in the hose. A common thing to break. Not cheap to fix though (about $50 new).

Ok, so this is where it should go? Looks like the PO jammed a screw in there which I'm assuming is no bueno. And I should replace the check valve and the grommet?

Correct.

Correct, again.

That check valve is ~$45 and the grommet is ~$5.

If not mistaken, that non-functioning check valve supplies vacuum for the HVAC system. Does the heat in your car work, and can you currently re-direct airflow from the windshield to the foot wells?

One of those connections should go to light under hood.

That's a good point, thanks. The air does act odd. I'll double check this when I get home.

Sorry, can you be a bit more specific? I'm still very much a newb when it comes to these cars. You mean the bulb that lights up under the hood when it's open?

Either that or it's the heating for the windscreen wiper nozzles. Mine has always been like that and have been wondering for years now.

It is the wire that powers the hood lamp:

Wire runs from connector, under and along the wiper motor cover, secured via clips.

Up to the hood and secured by more clips...

And finally to the lamp socket...

Cool! Do you happen to know how the spray nozzles are heated?
