I think it takes quite a few years, not only behind the wheel, but in life as well to realize if and where you should be pushing the gas pedal to the ground.
I am 22, from the age of 16-20 i drove a POS 85 dodge Colt. Great car, not for anything but beating the crap out of it. I would never do anything really stupid in the car unless i was alone and no one else was on the road.
Now 16 years old, going 140 it's no different from 40 going 140, if it's not a closed track then someone could potentially be hurt. I learn that the hard way by killing my first 944 (i am affraid to post that here for shame of being flamed) BUT i learned to respect the car. I am with Karl i just don't want to see or hear of any Listers that were hurt.
There has been a lot of accidents lately with us, and it seems that any time someone gets into a fender bender the car becomes a write off. for shame. Whether we cause the accident or some goof, its sad to see any car goto the highway in the sky.
For the guy that started the thread, do us all a favor, by driving the car respectably. When some rice rocket comes up beside you, let him drive like a clown, your driving a Porsche. Hell just saying that to girls will do more then saying i have a 200hp Honda. woohoo haha it's always going to be a honda no matter how much HP or how much money they put into it.. its NEVER going to be a Porsche nor handle like one.
Like everyone is saying learn to drive the car, respect the car and the car will never let you down. It's cherry like you say keep it that way and keep the pics comming. I'm sure we would all like to see your car

(sorry if this doesn't make much sence guys, been typing this between people bugging me at my desk. more then likely lots of syntax)

freeker,
look at the records, change the timing belt pronto if it wasn't done in the last 3 years, since the car has such low miles. Sounds like a find, what did you pay? don't kill yourself.

Either supercharge the car, or go by a supra, no one gives a sh*t about supras. Your car is basically concour with that many miles.
In all seriousness, invest in DE events, brakes, tires, and timing belts (heavy emphasis on this). The rest is not exactly cost effect compared to all the new rice on the road.

140mph.. perhaps it was the reading on the speedo.. Anyway that definitely is not actual speed..
And definitely YOU should not try that, take your new car to some DE or safe track session, and learn to drive fast in controlled enviroment
Driving a Porsche is a lot more fun, when you actually know what it is you are doing..

And like other guys already wrote, buy a 951, if it is max speed and acceleration what you are lookin for, 'cause a n/a is not such a cheap platform for that.
Congrats on your new car though

john d, can we put something like the following on the top of the pages in the forum, i like it!:

Also, nobody is generally impressed or enjoys hearing silly drag racing stories. So please keep those between you and your friends. Most of us know what these cars can and cant do(<--Nexoline et al dec 03).

These cars can go 100+ all day long. But going 0-60 constantly will kill it ..silly huh?

Anyways Im 18 and Ive 2 of these babies. Got in a car accident with my first one (not my fault ...got tboned by a guy running a stop sign) and you dont want to get into an accidnet trust me. Dont go 140 on the highway ...anymore or youll goto jail or blow a tire and bye bye life.

Anyways with your upgrades... as people said before ...CRAP TOTAL FREAKING CRAP ..nah im just kidding. But seriously keep it stock then sell it then buy an eclispe gsx or something.

Ok, a 944, any 944, is a drivers' car, not a dragsters' car. I don't care about my cars' top speed is, nor how high it revs or how quickly it gets to sixty. What I care about is when I can slot 2 or 3 corners, start with a "faster car" behind me, and finish with bare road behind me! Much more thrilling IMHO.
