Default Need new lenses.. US-spec clear/smoked lenses?

I lost one of my turn signal lenses to a rock over my thanksgiving break, so it's upgrade time!

Can I get a set of clear lenses for my 951 (both the front and side bumper lenses.. I want it to look clean)?

Or even better, can I get a set of smoked lenses for the front (Clear might look lame on a white 951.)

Photoshop guys: Can you photoshop a picture of a white 951 with clear lenses and/or smoked lenses?

Danke!

Nick

I think clear sidemarkers and turnsignals just in the front would look excellent on a white car.

but then I hate the sidemarkers to begin with and I'd just as soon delete them if I could..

Clear would look sweet on a white car. You're in luck, someone already makes them and sells them... search

Cheers,
Sach

Someone posted pictures of a white car a while back. Search for clear signals or something and you should find some posts by me. I think it was in one of my posts. If not, try the others. I specifically remember someone replying with pictures of a white car with clear and it looked cool. The sidemarkers looked weird though. IMO. I do love the clear fronts though!

I think it was one of the Finns (TurboTommy?) that did the clear front blinkers and side markers on a white car.

I was included in their group buy as an honorary Finn so have the set.
I have a black turbo and am just changing the front blinkers and front sidemarkers to clear. It looks rather clean and crisp ...... everything starts off with the long clear driving/fog lights. I think the looks should work with all color cars.

For the rear I'm just leaving them red.

If you want to change out the fronts to clear it is not real simple. For the forward blinkers/running lights you need to go buy a silverized amber #1157 bulb. Otherwise you will see this big amber spot in the middle of the lens. APC imports them from Taiwan. Then you need to steel wool the silver off the back end of the bulb for more light output as between the natural amber and the silver plating light output is getting hammered. I took off the silver all the way up to where the bulb starts to reverse and close in to form the front.

The sidemarkers are worse. You need to cut off the amber lens from the original housing. I used a band saw and clamped an 1/8th" thick board to the table to guide the lens through and keep it level. Then sand off with 100 grit all remaining amber that is welded to the white lens housing. Put the lens housing in the dishwasher and clean it up. Buy a can of chrome spray paint and spray the white interior - mask off the outer edge you are going to glue to as I don't think the glue will like hanging on to a thin paint surface. Then mix up some 90 minute set epoxy (don't use 5 minute set because you will never get things applied and aligned right that quick), align the lens on the housing and "clamp" with a few rubber bands.

Getting a silverized amber #1155 bulb for the sidemarker is a problem as no professionals make them, as far as I know. I had my bulb supplier throw in some amber bulbs to see how they look in the clear side marker but I doubt I will go over to the plating shop to get a thin chrome applied. Those guys want $40 minimum to do anything and a couple bulbs ain't worth it.

Great, thanks for the replies!

IceShark: Do you have any pics of the finished product?

Any chances of a "group buy" working on these things? $150 is steep in my opinion and thus keeping me from pulling the trigger.

Nick, I am in the stone age and don't have a digital camera yet as i'm waiting for them to go up in features and down in price. Ryan Drewitz does and is out of school on break now so maybe you can talk him into coming over to my place and snapping a few pics.

Short of that, trust me, I think your white 951 will look good with the clear front lenses. Private message one of the Finns to get some pictures of the clear on a white 951. I'm pretty sure I have seen them so it is just a matter of moving picture documents around.

Guran, that isn't going to help Nick much as he has a North American turbo arangement which is quite a bit different than that Euro NA nose. Nice looking car, though.
