Fuchs Question
Have a local seller offering these 16" wheels from an early 944. Does anyone know what type of wheels they are? They look similar to fuchs (shown on the cup car) but not quite the same.

The first wheels are known as cookie cutters. I don't think they were ever offered in a 16" form. Around here you can't even give them away. The second set of wheels are fuchs (come in 14", 15" and 16" and 5.5" to 9" widths (I think, don't quote me on widths)). And turbo fuchs (16"). Turbo fuchs=$$$$.

believe cookie cutters were made by ATS not fuchs?
they are very, very light weight - a good strong wheel for racing (the preferred wheel for 944spec).
a set of 4 in good shape might be worth $300.

Three Wheelin'
the wheel you show only came in 15 inch
6 " wide ( silver ) for the front of 911s and 7 inch wide ( silver) for the rears of 911
and rear and fronts of 944 in black.
Made by ATS in Germany and of cast aluminum.
Not as light as the forged alloy FUCHS, but a good wheel.
Market value varies. I have paid as little as 25 for a pristine wheel and as much as 100 for same. They are a bargain in value for what you get, but they WILL break if abused whereas a FUCHS bends instead.
They are used in the racing series to provide low cost and availability to everyone across the board and provide a 'baseline' in the series for uniformity.
Many do not care for the look and prefer the FUCHS; I love them both, but think nothing is greater than a well preserved set of 7 and 8" staggered FUCHS on a '44.
In any colored rim center.
( just don't over pay as there are a lot available at present..... which may change in the future because a lot are getting used up in the race and d.e. events)

Thanks for all the info guys. I have a set of newly refinished 16" phone dials on my car but was thinking about getting these as backups with summer tires only. Craigslister wants $350..

This is not true. Perhaps in certain situations, yes, a forged wheel would bend when a cast one cracks. However this statement cannot be applied universally.
A Fuchs wheel can crack just like a cast wheel. Especially since most of them are so fatigued already. The wheels are not immune to cracking.

At least two wheels clear, maybe more. They are designed to be high clearance.
FWIW, they clear in a static situation. Under heavy cornering when the wheel bends over they may or may not clear.
