Hope I don't bore you with this one...couldn't find a thread on it...but my 944-85.5 has a rattle in the hatch back, I've tried to tighten with adjustment but it seems the glass just keeps slipping lower in the hatch back frame.
I eventually had to seal the top exposed area, where glass slid beyond frame, with silicon caulking and now wondering if I can remove glass from frame, reinstall and be any better? And if there is anything I can do to get rid of the rattle!!!
Or is that just a by-product of the hatch back design???
Thanks again for helping this mechanically disadvantaged 944 lover!!

Make sure the hatch is closed tight, LoL. I know this sounds stupid but my hatch sometimes the one side doesn't close tight and it rattles like a bitch then. After closing just lightly lift up on either side and make sure it is closed tight.

Glad I'm not the only one getting a little testy about the noise but would like to see if anyone has any advice on solving the problem.....
Thanks for taking a look!

The glass separates from the frame from a combination of the adhesive drying out and the aluminum frame warping from pushing against the pressure of the hatch shocks. I put new hatch shocks on mine and they were real strong which resulted in me having to push down the hatch with some force each time. The action of the metal flexing across the stiff shock and the stiff glass not flexing caused it to separate eventually. I got one reglued by a glass guy and it only lasted about a year before it came back apart. The glass has to be completely removed from the frame, everything cleaned and the metal straightened out. Then you have to use like 20 pairs of vise grips (carefully) to hold the whole thing together for a few days after you glue the window back in so it can dry. My advise is to find another hatch.

The rear glass on my 944 has seperated from the metal frame along the top. Sorta stick up like a air duct above the roof. Because the PO never bothered to fix it the frame along the left side hinge is bent. I have to find another whole rear hatch.
I think someone at www.924.org has done a write up on reattaching the glass.

Jay W...now that one scares me a bit , sounds like if you don't hold your mouth just right it may break. And that would be a really bad thing! Got the impression a replacement would run $1200+ ?

Mainly my point is that using vise grips around glass is a careful kind of process, and that the car will not be driveable for several days while the glue dries. Then its like rolling the dice to see if the glass stays in the frame for more than a few months. I stay away from stiff hatch shocks that bend the old weak window frame/glass assembly.

Ther must be at least 20 threads on this topic. Very common problem, what words were you searching with?
With this search engine, if you use a bunch of words it must find every one to report a post. Start broad and work your way in. Try "hatch glass rattle" and you will find plenty.
