Angry Steering Rack Removal Help

I have removed the 4 main bolts, remove the line from the steering pump side, loosen the steering knuckle, loosen the tie rod from the control arm but the rack will not come out. It appears that the AC compressor and cross member is in the way. Can the rack come out with out taking out the AC compressor? Do I have to take off other lines from the rack? Any help will be appreciated.

There should be no need to deal with the AC compressor. You must remove the steering knuckle from the rack to remove it.

Take a look at a good tutorial:

is the rack hanging from the knuckle? Did you take the arms loose from the spindles?

If its hanging from the knuckle then the best way to loosen it is wedge a screw driver in the slot in the knuckle where it tightens around the rack spline. Slight pressure pushing this apart should let the rack drop right out of it.

There is also a power steering line that goes over the crossmember and connects to the driver's side of the power steering rack.

Yes there is and it is a mother (ask me how I know)! BTW- the bolt that goes through the steering shaft has to come ALL the way out, the collar has a cut-out for the bolt to go through.

Thanks very much guys. I took all the suggestions and the rack is out. I had to move the torsion bar out of the way to get room to manouver easily.
