Autothority MAF & Chips = Lots of smoke?
Hi Guys,
My first post here Seems to be quite an interesting forum! Read a lot, searched a lot, but couldnt find an answer to my question, so here it comes:
Recently i purchased an Autothority MAF and chips through Ebay...
I installed it all yesterday and since then i've the problem that the car smokes like hell. Whatever i do with the potmeter doesnt help. I even completely redid the installation today and stil smoke smoke smoke.
What am I doing wrong- or have I been ripped of?
Thanks a lot!

it seems to be white. Well it's definately not blue; i've seen that before and its not that.
Can i blow a headgasket in the first 60 seconds I start the car? I did exactly as the manual states; set the meter on the 5th turn (of the 10) and start engine. So I did and so the smoking started

don't ask about a headgasket... it will just depress you. ONLY READ THE REST OF THE POST IF YOU WANT TO BE DEPRESSED FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK!!
My 84 N/a cost about $1100 for the headgasket replacement at a shop. It's about $550 from what I've heard if you do it yourself.

Any other changes made at the same time ?
Is it cold there ? is it more than the normal white steam when temperature is cold ?
Headgasket can be done for under $100 if done yourself.

Yes its cold here, about 4C. Well it's much more white smoke than normal. Also the setting of the potentiometer DOES affect the amount of smoke... it's basically A lot of smoke, or A lot of smoke + a little bit more
I'm 120% sure that the gasket wasnt blown beforehand, the car was fine. All I did was install the MAF and the chips...
BTW- The car is a turbo; i just saw i probably better post this in another category- sorry i'm a newbie

its not the headgasket. Apparantley there's a difference between US cars and European cars; the breather line for the turbo is disconnected in US versions, whilst its connected for the European cars. This causes the turbo to have insufficient air and that causes the smoke.
Silly eh? I'm going to try it out and let you all know!

I just checked everything again because it's daylight now and I can see something and this is what I find:
- When I start the engine there's a lot of white smoke (it looks white to me)
- When I remove the oil cap the white smoke gets less, but it's still there
- When I give a little gas (from about 2000rpm) there's no more whitesmoke with the oil cap
- When I give a little gas (from about 2000rpm) there's no more whitesmoke without the oil cap
What could this be??
Thanks!!
