FS: Setrab 13-row oil cooler and hoses for 944 fitment
Wondering if any interest in this, for someone who just wants extra cooling or maybe a Spec racer?
This is a Setrab-made 13-row oil cooler that I pulled from an older Volvo.
I had these heavy-duty hoses (1/2" ID) made up to adapt the cooler's fittings (1/2" BSP) to the 944 turbo oil filter console at a hydraulic shop.
Wrapped around the hoses is some thick foam-rubber pipe insulation, just to protect the hoses from rubbing or chafing on anything, can be easily removed.
I have been running this actual cooler on my 944 since 2011 and it's been great - kind of neat to grab the inlet hose after a long drive and feel how hot it is, and feel how cool the outlet hose is by comparison - this thing just works!
This is the same size/type of cooler that is commonly sold for 944s as a "KISS" kit by various vendors, but the hoses supplied will make this a stand-alone cooler rather than a supplement to the small 951 stock cooler.
Core dimensions rougly 9.5" x 4" x 2".
Not pictured but included are a few 90 degree adapter fittings needed to clear the PS pump bracket.
The aluminum angle is what I used to hang the cooler from the bumper shock mounting bolts. Not pretty, but lightweight and strong enough to support the cooler. Has holes drilled to mount the cooler either all the way to driver side or passenger side upsidedown, or in the middle right side up.
My investment in the cooler and lines is about $200 so that is my asking price - $200+shipping in the USA. This is "half price" compared to a new KISS kit!

Sure, but you'll need to swap adapter fitting to connect these hoses to the 951 cooler hoses.
The hoses should be long enough to put this cooler over behind the driver side foglight if you want (like a KISS setup)
Rundown of sizes:
- 951 oil cooler female ports + 951 oil filter console female ports are M22
- there are adapter fittings, M22->M26, used in all the female ports on a 951 setup.
- the 951 stock hoses have M26 fittings on the ends.
- my hoses have an M24 fitting on one end and a 1/2" BSP on the cooler end (the 90º bends)
- i have M22->M24 adapter fittings in my oil filter console.
- so you need to remove 1 stock M22->26 adapter from the 951 cooler and 1 from the oil filter console, and swap them for my M22->M24 adapters.
- then you can hook the shorter of my hoses between the 951 cooler and the setrab, and the longer hose from the setrab back to the console.

Not directly.
Your car (like all 944 NA) has a water-oil cooler in a housing mounted to the block (under the oil filter).
The turbo models got a different version of this oil filter mount that had provisions for hoses to run to an air-oil cooler mounted to the side of the radiator frame.
You would have to source that turbo-spec oil filter mount and install it on your engine in place of your original cooler, as well as make some brackets to hang the cooler at the front of the car.

Hey Spencer, if you still have this next week I'll drive out your way or meet somewhere if you're heading towards LA and take it off your hands, need some more cooling in general and this won't hurt!

Hi Spencer,
If you still have this, I'm interested as well. My Turbo was purchased with some collision damage and the oil cooler sustained some damage as a result.
Do I have this correct - you ran this on a 944 Turbo as a stock oil cooler replacement?
Thanks!

Cool and thanks! I'll wait in line in case that falls through (hope it works out!).
In the mean time, I'll be snooping around for a used Setrab and will save your list above to have some hoses made up!

I had this mounted in front of the radiator which is why one of the hoses is so long (it reached around the driver-side of the radiator to the inlet fitting on the cooler).
If you wanted to just stick this in place of the stock 951 cooler you'd use much shorter hoses...
my front framing is all custom but you could make something like this work on a regular 944 body.
