How many 924S's out there?

Hi Todd,
I am in Maynard MA Although I have severial other cars I drive my 924s every day in and out of Boston. It also sees track duties although I never got it out to the track this year. I also drive it year round. I found that a good set of 4 studded snow tires makes it virchally unstopable in snow, ice, rain etc.

I'd owned a 924S for a few years - selling it in 1999.......just bought another - '87 - 125K miles - clean, manual trans ... former owner had added turbo hood, powder coated 968(?) wheels and recaro seats....

Looks real nice Rickj, I like these wheels on our cars, yes they look like 968 wheels 6's in the front, and 7's in the back, mine are 911 wheels, still 6 up front but 8 in the rear. Do you have spacers up front or is the car upgraded to late offset??

I've two...
My enthusiasm for P-cars all started with an '87 924s. Now it feels completely out of control!
Both of mine run really well. One I use on occassion and the other is what keeps me out of trouble:

I am a new owner of a 1979 924. It's pretty base right now and needs the "sloppy shifter" overhaul, but other than that.....I have a LOT of plans for this little car. (I can say little because I am 6'3"!)

I've had my '87 924S for a year and a half and finally passed the inspection required for licensing last week!!! (because I bought the car outside of Quebec an inspection was necessary) Most of that time I couldn't work on it because of priority house renovations. After the inspection it went directly into the garage for winter storage... next spring I'll finally get to drive it seriously.
When I bought it it was in great shape, but it had been about 10 years since the last belt change, so that was the first job, also...
-new engine mounts
-new hand brake cables and shoes, drums turned
-at least 11 bulbs (although the PO kept the car in good shape he didn't seem to check the lights very often)
-reanimated the wiper motor, still makes a horrible noise but the wipers move... to rebuild during the winter.
-fixed the odometer... not the usual gear failure/misalignment, found a work around
-new windshield liquid pump.

Poor Picture, But I have had my '87 924s for a couple years now.
I bought it after my home and my 2000 Beetle were crushed by a tree during a hurricane.
I love the history of the 924 and being very much a VW fan, I figured it was perfect for me.
Long story short, it has been a bit of a nightmare. The PO attempted to rewire most of the car and failed. Badly. Dash is well cracked and had a cheap plastic cover over it, which has warped and cracked from the sun. Howver, ignoring the dash, the interior is in great shape.
I had someone break in a while back. He/she apparently couldn't figure out how to get my radio out, so they smashed it and broke my sunvisor. Intelligent thieves are intelligent.
It sat for a while because of an electrical infidelity but I have just recently gotten a rush of determination to DD again.
I have it running and driving again, but most things in the interior are still nonoperational. Ordering some new suspension bits today and will hopefully have it back on the road before the new year.
Even with all the headaches, I love my 924s. It is a comfortable sporty car that I, being 6'3", can fit comfortably in, unlike my NA Miata.

88 924S
Just got a 88 924S in February. It was one owner, with all records and 52,000 miles. Feel quite lucky to find. Good mechanical shape as PO had recent timing belt change and new fuel lines.
Turning it into track (DE)/daily driver car and have put Konis on back and Momo steering wheel and lightened it by 175lbs.
Question: Anyone have a guess as to how many 88 924S are still on the road in U.S.? I know only 2190 were imported. Lacking an estimate is there a rule of thumb percentage guess ast to how many cars typically are junked each year? After 25 years, I'm thinking there can't be many left.
Thanks!

1987 924S
Just got this 1987 924S in May. (Sorry about the tiny picture)
Currently have the engine out to do new seals, timing belt etc, and a new clutch. Car also needs a new windshield and sunroof mechanism. I'm hoping to be on the road by August 2013!
This is my first Porsche and first project of this scale on any car... its been a lot of fun so far.
I'm located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

I bought a 1987 924s in June. It was sitting in some guys driveway for 8 years and jumped on the craigslist ad the second I saw it. I scored it for 700. So far it's needed brake lines, calipers, pads, rotors, oil and filter, coolant flush, clutch, and timing/balance shaft belt/cam tower gasket. It only has 71,000 miles on it. One owner.

I recently picked up an '88 924S. Im in the process of rehabbing the poor car, so it might be a bit. But I'm looking forward to it. My first car was an '80 924 and it was such a blast.
As to the 924S, I was fortunate in that the interior was at least in good condition. But its going to need a suspension overhaul, water pump + timing belt (no history on that 70K odometer), and a paint job.
