Well, it will be a fun post so please keep us posted (with pics)! Good things comes to those who wait and it isn't like you don't have another 914 to drive.

Case split- now I have about a million pieces to clean, need to find a source for main bearings (hard to find!), get a cam for the carbs, decide on P/C set, etc etc etc etc... good thing I don't have to depend on this car soon to actually drive!

Metal work about done and of course they found more rust than expected- what else is new??? These guys are amazing and the car will be better than new. Will try and figure out how to post some pix.
Ordering parts now to put it all back together - just found some hard to find std main bearings
Pelican ought to really like me as I'm just getting started- found a place called bumper shop in California to redo the front bumper- back one is ok. I'm afraid though that stuff I thought was ok won't be appropriate when I get it back...

A bit more $$ than I thought, but sentimentality is never cheap!!!

I think this is all a fabrication of your imagination until we see some pics!

I hate to agree with him, but I will. This post is meaningless without pictures!

But congrats on the car project going so well!

I know I know, pictures... but I did go see it yesterday, sitting next to a '55 Speedster with perfectly fit alunimum doors, lids, etc... amazing. Metal work about done. Nearly ready for paint. Filled in windshield washer holes, side markers, rear number plate holes, antenna hole, gonna slightly flare the fenders for a little more fender clearance. Undercarriage looks new, all old undercoating off (Ziebart- would never do that now if we knew what we know now!)... of course, now some of the parts I took off that I thought looked ok are now not good enough!!
My good old silver original is going to feel neglected when this gets back!!

I think that, to this point, my biggest difficulty with my project is finding new, o.e. parts. So much stuff, including pieces that really matter, just isn't available and the frustration levels got very high from time to time. I think that I've spent darn near as much time looking for used/new/after market replacements as I've spent working on the car. An Excellence article called the 914 parts support from Porsche good, I call it BS.

Thanks to this forum I've found almost everything that I've needed, and I must admit that product from most of the recommended sources has been top quality.
