I am a PCA judge and I would love this car! Just a first rate job on this 914.

Thanks Jay- yeah it would be fun to put it in the concours because it will be so clean. After having these cars for 40 some years, you sort of don't care about originality that much anymore. I might on a short wheelbase long hood, but that's a different story...

I agree, I am not as hung up on originality on my '73 2.0, but my low mile '73 1.7 I am a little more focused on. That is probably why I am not in love with the car very much. I am affraid to drive it or change it a lot.

Got fuel lines and most of the brake lines finally in...and got the fuel pump mounted. Stopped when we noticed the amount of crap in pasted in the bottom of the fuel tank. Off to a radiator shop to have it completely boiled and sealed.

Headlights are all in and wired.

Rear Sway bar is on and I can't wait to drive it with all of the new poly bushings...gonna make the silver car feel soft (it is up next for the same type of restoration though ).

Did you guys go with metal fuel lines or original plastic? The CFR lines look real nice.

I hated adjusting my headlight mechanisms. It took forever to get them even with the hood. The gaps are still off....

I'm running carbs so only need one line- got one from Tangerine- really slick, in fact we just hooked up the lines and the pump in the front trunk this last weekend. Took out the old lines - had forgotten the front part is metal and the back 2/3 is the plastic, which still looked ok, but thought it was time to replace with everything else we're doing...

Some work on interior but was too hot to do much more, sweating on everything! Can't put center arm rest in until shift linkage is all adjusted and that will have to wait until engine is in...
bleeding brakes too- what a pain when the whole system was apart, even with a pressure bleeder. Even after many times and refills, still a really crappy brake pedal!!

Oil pressure... good eyes- may need to tilt it so it's easier to read from the driver's seat. Not gonna worry about a radio! Also had North Hollywood reface the oil temp gauge so now it has numbers and a new sending unit. Will need that in Arizona!!!

Ready to mate engine and transaxle- got some "aluminum" paint from Eastwood to do the transaxle, looks pretty good.

Would love to get engine unit in so I can put it on the ground and level the suspension etc. Obviously won't be driving it seeing that snow will be coming soon, and I'll be spending part of the winter in the desert, where I can enjoy the GT3 since I shipped it down there for the winter!!

I'll be happy if it's running by next late spring. Need to debug it for several hundred miles before I move it to Arizona as my garage down there won't allow the kind of work I can do in Iowa...

Only advantage there is the stuff I can't do will be easier to deal with as there are several good indie shops in the PHX area.

My son came over today and we got the engine in relatively easily, and then put on the wheels and set it down on the ground. First time it's been on the ground with an engine in it for quite a while!!
Some progress- while outside we're on the edge of a winter storm watch- can't wait to get to Scottsdale for the auctions!!

Thanks Matt, it is turning out better than I ever expected. Now I won't want to drive it because it is so pristine... thank God it doesn't rain much in Arizona!!
