Default heading to the body shop

After several years, finally got it stripped and ready for the body shop. It's a long story how I got that car, but I knew it from when it was a year old. One of my best friends all through grade school on got it when it was a year old. We did tons of PCA and SCCA stuff with both our 914's through grad school. He unfortunately died of a rare condition 8 years ago and his widow said he wanted me to have it. He hadn't driven it since the late 80's but I did get it running several years ago but it needed some TLC... has some rust but that will be taken care of. May take a while to get finished but will sit proudly next to my silver "first" car...

Maybe Pete wants to come out to Iowa to help me put it back together...

Very cool project! Reminds me of when I did my '73 2.0 - a very long time ago!

Yes! Will the body shop allow you to take progress pictures?

The guys are great- they mainly do 356 and early 911 stuff- I have to keep reminding them this isn't a 100K Carrera Speedster. They are currently doing a pre A coupe with the body mounted bumpers and are basically making a new Speedster from a nearly non-existent donor. The only thing is I'm not sure how long they'll have it! They seem excited to work on a 914- will post progress info as it comes...

Dropping it off Sunday- I've been out of town. Chill Jay, I'll give some progress reports when there's something to report!
(also been busy trying to make a deal on a '10 GT3- only so much time in a day...)

There is always enough time in the day for a 997 GT3.

Dropped it off today- they're actually going to start working on it this week! Will post pix- it's sitting in good company right now, next to a '55 Speedster and a pre-A coupe, and a '66 911 coupe...

That's a wonderful way to remember your friend.

Interesting how much bigger the Cayman looks next to the 914.

Hey, if it wasn't for the 914 the Cayman wouldn't exist! It needs to show respect to its elders.
