VW Porsche
I recall the crap I used to get from some elitist Porsche owners about my "lowly" Volkswagen Porsche or "VoPo." I wonder what they're going to do, as they're all Volkswagens now! VoPo was a nasty expression a few used to describe the 914. (VoPo stands for the Volks Politzei--the East German Police).

When I got my 914 way back in Dec 1970 many in the PCA didn't want the 914 included or be considered a proper Porsche to joing the club... I sent a scathing letter to Pano at the time complaining I could have spent less and gotten a rust-bucket 356. I really enjoyed beating 911's in autocrosses, and that was with my 914-4 not a 6! I never cared it was called a VW-Porsche in Europe- in fact, much earlier a friend and I got to drive a real VW-Porsche 914 ( a blue early production model) from Minneapolis to our dealer in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for display before they were even imported! That car turned some heads at the time!!

I think I'm going to order one of those European VW-Porsche badges for my 'teener now. This also means I can feel better dreaming about a 1.8T in the 914! Funny how things come full circle.

If I remember correctly, the euro model 914 I drove (this was 40 years ago!) had a VW symbol in the middle of the wheel where our US models had the Porsche crest.

That is correct, only it is a Wolfsburg emblem. Found it on ebay. Seller didn't know what he was selling or didn't care as it was just listed as a 914 horn bowtie. I was the only bidder. In great shape too...
