Default 914- slim pickings at the Parade

Boy, I was lucky to see maybe 2-3 914's in the three days I was at the Parade- we left Dillon early Wednesday AM. Waved at a nice red one on the road from Dillon to Keystone the first day and only saw one entered in the concours and it was a totally redone '74 made to look like a modded GT- nice, but hardly original.
Remember having mine judged at Lake Geneva in '72, Pocono in '74, Brainerd '76 and Aspen '78... had enough of concours by then, but would still put it in the display line, where there was a nice 914-6 (real one). (Didn't drive it this time- went over in a friend's 997 cab... nice ride, had the top down almost all the way across Nebraska.)
Always remember back then 914's were the step-sister as far as 911 drivers were concerned but what the hell, it was fun to beat them in the autocross!!!

If next year's Parade is near Chicago, may have to take it over for old time's sake...

The red one you saw belongs to a guy from Washington State. Not only is it beautiful but he track drives the hell out of it. Mike is the guys name... It is a 6.

I'll have Huey at Chicago - Keystone was just too far away... He'd probably have to be Performance class, or whatever we have for race set up cars.
But you're right, almost no 914's out, except for a few autocrossers.

Reminds me of my dad's bahia red 914- he got one about six months after I got mine- drove it for many years and then got a black 944...
